Matthew Clarke

And barring injury Bellis will play the 40 more games to get to 250 putting him in the 1.86% bracket (He’s on 210 with 3 more seasons to go in his GCS contract)

I wonder what the parameters were for the above table, every player ever drafted or every player to play at least one game.

It was only those who had played at least one game. It was also from 5 or 6 years ago so may have changed slightly since then timbo.

Right, imagine the success rate if it were every player ever drafted !

Only 60% at 10 games or more is a really scary number if you are a draftee.

The system weeds out the poor picks, the poorly prepared mentally and the unlucky (injury). But it also weeds out very good players who, but for a different decision made during drafting, might have ended up at another club where they were developed better, supported better and were able to succeed.

Thanks for posting that table @AngryAnt :clap2

old data but I read somewhere that around 11% of draftees never play a senior game.
geez, that seems a lot.

Of the last few years a few of ours that were delisted spring to mind, Jonny English, Fitter N Turner, Chesty McKenzie, Cayden Williams.

Noah C & Biggy obviously yet to debut

Edit from 2010 & 2011 drafts we had a few, Piva Wright, Ben Darrou, Gibson Turner, Steve Verrier , Ben Jakobi & John Heslin all rookies & of course DMac

Would love to see a table of probabilities of playing 100, 150, 200 games etc based on the number of games a draftee plays in their first 3 years. Got some suspicions it wouldn’t look good for the late bloomers.

This did make me think of a former pick 5 who played reserves only in his rookie year and was considered a bit an early flop. 325 game premiership captain Jarrad McVeigh...but probably the exception that proves the rule.

FJ's issue was his very poor first round selections. He built his reputation off hitting later picks.

Notable first round misses include: JON, C Ellis, B Lennon & R Conca. All were top 12 picks and major busts.
Lol ridiculous comment he only got the backbone of our dynasty , Cotch jack dusty and Rance .if it where that easy blues and GC would have won 3 flags ea too. Who are you comparing him to , god . Name recruiters below that did better

This thread is about when we're going to win the preemiership. So any rhetotric about failing to recruit preemiership players has to be measured against the year in which future preemiership players deliver.

This thread is about a plan to deliver.

Matthew Clark has a good hand this year. I would trade his cards away in a heartbeat. For immediate success.

Suppose RFC doesn't see it that way. What's the plan?

Elsewhere I posit that elites are the key to preemiership success. In the future I will post about elite of elites. How are we going to get some of those rare beasts?

To win the preemiership.

There are two ways to get them. Draft them or buy them. We have no money to buy right now. So we concentrate on drafting them this year and next. End of next season our salary cap pressure is reduced. So maybe next year we buy. Or maybe the year after, while we continue to bring in youth, looking for the next elite. Our elite from 2017 are no longer the players they were. The only way we win the flag next year is an amazing run or injury luck with cotch, Jack, Prestia, Lynch. Edwards, Lambert all staying on the park, whilst retaining their pace and strength. I just can’t see it happening. But I’m ok with that. Because we groom the youth, build the cast. Buy what we need when we’ve got money to pay. I’ll happy forgo next year if it means back to back to back 2024-2027. We’ll still have dusty for the start of our next dynasty.

Agree grumps. Our window will open again in 3 years

I'm beginning to wonder if Blair is more involved in our drafting now than he was when Francis drafted a Preemierhsip side.

El Regardless. One year from now, we'll have a very good idea of how Blair and Clark have done. As at November 2021 it looks mediocre at best.

Pretty sure Blair was always involved but more in the 'types' rather than the player if you know what i mean
List management & Recruiting need to be integrated as im sure blair would have a few players in the works for 2022 and beyond and our drafting would need to be aligned. I have confidence in Matty Clarke's ability and i remember reading somwhere we didnt cut back on our scouting which enhances my confidence

Remind me who is our West Aust scout.

That is the guy who got us our dynasty.
How does a WA scout convince all the Victorian scouts that his player is the go? Would love to be a fly on the wall for some of these discussions.
