Fact is Matty is selected each week by the coaching panel. They'd have more insight the role he plays and must see something in him. When he has been sent back to Coburg he's worked hard on his deficiencies and almost always put in a BOG performance. The kid works hard and listens. I reckon he's got a lot of improvemernt in him still. He's far from our worst player but a bit of support might even help make him an even better one.

That's all true Rosy. But the deficiencies in his game suggest his best may not be good enough to bring us the ultimate prize.

Look, I agree with your general premise that unskilled players will hold us back. But don't agree that Matt is that unskilled that he will be one of those.
There are 10 players who you would flick before you even considered Matt.

yeah he has attributes that are admirable but they dont outweigh his deficiencies. yep he has a dip and theres lots on the list who dont but because he has a dip do we keep him.
for me the worst two traits just doesnt get enough of the ball and his kicking skills are atrocious. i consider him almost the worst kick in the team.

I'm sure Matty also looks better at Coburg where there is less pressure and intensity. He has a very reasonable effieciency rating (haven't checked lately but I think it's in the 80s) and is not known for multiple clangers. Surely those stats show he's not quite as bad as some are making out. It was the same with Andy Kellaway's kicking constantly being criticised more due to his name than his actual performance. Added to that someone posted that Matt's been playing with an ankle injury, and I know we have at least one other player on here copping a bagging for his kicking when he really should be rested rather than jabbed.
