Matt white

thank god he is out, how the hell he gets a game week in week out kills me. his brain dosent work as fast as his legs, he shouldve kicked that goal no excuses!! he should join pettifer on the outer at years end.

I feel for those that get injured but I'm actually glad we've been forced to make a selection change this week. If Thomson plays well today I hope he gets a run against the Bulldogs. I would prefer Jackson to White at this stage. White is not best 22 no matter how fast he runs, how hard he tries.. just is not polished enough and has poor awareness. Depth player at best.

Ineffectual. As someone else noted, doesn't use his pace to advantage. Hopefully struggles to get back in. Would prefer McMahon.

Must be heartbreaking for some to see a tryer like Matty getting a game week after week when there's so many other players at coburg that just aren't talented enough to put the hand up and bypass him on performance.
How fortunate that Matty popped a hamstring and will miss a few weeks thereby giving a battler at coburg an armchair ride into the seniors.

Gotta laugh at people who say that matty doesnt deserve a game. The boy runs his guts out,is super quick ,shows courage and determination when the ball is in dispute, and always offers an option to teamates.

Yeah it was more exciting than Richmond winning. About time some good fortune went our way. I almost popped the champagne when I saw him grab his leg. ::)

Think you missed the point of TM's post there, Aunty.

It's a pity for White, hope he recovers well. Surely this must mean in: Thomson next week.

Reading the post wrongly Rosy.
I'm on Whitey's side, was just having a dig at people suggesting he should be dropped from the side because they think he's not good enough. When the criteria should always be to perform well enough to bypass the incumbent player and force the selectors to elevate the outsider.

A few weeks rest and rehab getting his hammy right will give the ankle he has been carrying for several weeks a chance to recover as well.

48 games from a kid that almost didn't get drafted aint too bad......and there are a lot more games to come from Whitey yet. :clap

You blokes are carrying on like White's the only player to ever miss a goal on the run. Of course it's unacceptable, but I'm sure he knows it as well as the armchair gurus. However even Rocking Robin missed a set shot but don't hear anyone bellowing. Moore missed one in the first quarter set shot again no threads on his mistake.

Yeah but he doesn't create other chances and his speed is his only 'weapon' im not calling for his head but his skills often cost us turnovers and goals. He needs to improve his kicking ASAP or he'll need to find another career. Nahas is playing his 7th or 8th game, White has played close to 50....I'll cut him more slack than Matthew White at this stage of his development

I would agree his kicking may have been average at best when he started, however if you have the opportunity to view each game again from this year, I'll think you'll find unacceptable disposals you could count on one hand including last night's miss. Has been a definite improvement but there is always room for more which I'm sure he's aware of. My initial post was based on the point, that had he kicked that goal a thread would not have been started in the first place.

I'm not so sure about that, his defensive pressure, tackling, determination and passion aren't just damaging to the opposition, they spur on our boys to go a bit harder. He's a good one Matty White, can't wait for him to play his 50th once he's back from injury, I find him quite exciting to watch.

Well said Rainseys. :)

yep completely agree rainseygirl.....Matty is much maligned here

See I think this has been the RFC's problem for the last 15 years, we see potential in players and hope that they can improve but they rarely come on, we accept mediocre players with poor skills and prey they come through and I am most certainly guilty of it, but I've had enough of accepting these types of players. I want to watch the Tiges carve the competition up with A grade skills and make our opposition pay for their skill errors. Once again I'm not calling for White's head, I'd love to see him come on but I don't think he has the class to take us forward.

That's all true, but along with the likes of Raines, Jackson, McMuffin, Edwards, McGuane and numerous others, he's not gonna get us a flag.

We either continue liking our players and finishing mid-table or we turn over the glass-half-full types and get some full-glass types who will take us the next step on the footy field.

I agree on all of those players except McGuane, he was fantastic last night IMO.
