its called depth. players fight for the same spot. it creates a good team
suggesting to trade anyone is dumb, just bcos a kid who has played 10 games is showing something

What about suggesting to trade someone who has played 100 games and showed nothing.

Trading is dumb?? First time I've heard that.

If our coaches need someone more skilful and strong bodied in defence, then he's the 1st trade IMO.

We've had too many sticks in defence for too long. Moore has been the only KPD player to beef up in the last few years when starting with us.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

let astbury become established before any trades are made thats all. i used to bash him around, but luke has improved a fair way, defensive skill cannot be put up against muscle size. your born with talent, players can build muscle, they can compete for the same spot, what happens if moore, will or ast gets injured, once luke is traded like you suggested, who steps in??

You would hope that Astbury was improving, I certainly like him, but as back he still has a way to go. Sorry TF, can't buy that one yet!

what happens if his second year is like Post?

leave's us with a gapping hole in our backside. :shakehead

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Does it, really? If Gourdis sticks around, and Grimes and Rance waiting in the wings, I reckon we could easily cover the trading of McGuane.

Not on exposed form, hope maybe, but not on exposed.,,,,,

Perhaps, but name any team who can effectively cover the loss of multiple players in a particular position (Geelong aside, perhaps). And the only way we'll find out whether these hopes have basis is to play the buggers!

The thing is, we're in a position where we have a few key defenders and could afford to trade one. McGuane (or maybe Rance) would be the ones with currency that we could replace.

Agree with playing them, no reason not to in this and next season, but you don't have to trade one to play another.

So you trade away your notes but keep your coins? I doubt we'd trade for someone better, sadly.

Now that's a sensible post I have to agree with.

Why should it be? Two different people. Comparing their 1st years, I reckon Astbury's shown more value

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

I have to admit, the fact that the back 6 look settled without him and they're throwing him up forward to experiment means he'd be ideal tradebait.
With Grimes & Gourdis developing as additional younger defenders, we'd be crazy not to trade him for a decent pick

Thought he managed to bring his ability to give away silly free kicks from defence in to the forward line today.

That made me laugh.

How many times did McGuane bring his man over to a contest Riewoldt was in? With that at Scott Stevens dropping off Jack had no room.

Just a shocker.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

The back 6 looked much more solid in the third term when Luke was back there taking the most dangerous forward. Agreed he wasnt brilliant up forward but is still a vital part of our team in the future. Sometimes wonder whether people actually watch the game or just post rehearsed comments on here.
