Luke McGuane

I reckon some people, rapidly dwindling, actually take Luke's good form as a personal affront to their egos.

I am still scoffing and spluttering. I haven't stopped.

Some classy touches??? He had 9 touches. 9 touches. 3 clangers. 6 touches over four quarters. One goal. So he had 5 touches in four quarters.

You would hope they were classy considering he touched it once a quarter.

You would hope that they are Maurice & Cyril Rioli like, the most golden touches of all time. I look forward to in depth look at this 5 magical touches and how classy they were.

Go ahead, I'll get the popcorn and back in 15. These five touches need to go down in footballing history.

Not big on reading scoop?

Also, effectively 2 goals. Beat 2 opponents to spear it to Jack (classy), who handballed over the top to Kingy I think. It was McGuanes goal. 2 goals, pay earn't.

Vickery is three down? Long way to go. Stand by it. By years end Vickers is up.

You're probably right on that, but who cares? Luke is in good form, full stop. Its not about you. Luke is a third tall, a defensive fwd. TV isn't.

You just bookmark it.

You still havent told us exactly what you expect from McGuane each game in order for him to receive some sort of recognition from you? Surely you are not expecting a 30 possession 3 goal game from him? Because the tone in your posts is exactly what it seems you are looking for.

Not just Luke, all the whipping boys. The sly ferals will trumpet something like "they've changed their game like I said they needed too". The more stubborn will just refuse to acknowledge the obvious. The cowards just stop posting until said whipping boy plays below par.

But what is the obvious? That they are actually quality footballers that have been out of form? Or have they been poorly coached? Or?

If all our players are good why have we been so unsuccessful? Are they playing the wrong roles?

I think all players that get to the AFL have talent. The difference is the better players can play better for longer and the difference between their best and their worst is smaller then the so called whipping boys. Think about guys like Jackson, McGuane, White. Yes, they are capable of very good football but they don't seem to sustain it and their worst is awful. The Jacko thread this year highlights this IMO. Jacko is like the girl with the curl.

FWIW I thought McGuane was OK on the weekend and has played his role well this year. Can he sustain it is the question.

Each week, since I think I'm impartial on Muscles McGuane's football - even though I like him, I post on his game.

Muscles did a few good things, kicking a beautiful goal and destroying two elite opponents to set up another (leadership), not to mention getting that slattern Mackie to wash his car. But he only kicked one by game's end. And I thought our man had his least profitable game of the year.

But I have to make two allowances. The first is that he had to ruck. Ouch. Nah. And the second is that the ball stopped coming in.

I thought Muscles was down a bit and would need to improve next time we play a top team. Still he did get to ask Slackie if he had trouble with the *smile* sticking to his fur.

Fair comment.
This bloke copped persistent merciless vitriolic bagging for a long time.
Well played Luke McGuane.

As a long-time doubter of McGuane (still am), if you ever went to the footy with leysy it couldn't be further from the truth. Leysy yells, screams and rides every bump with every player we have, no matter who. That doesn't mean leysy can't have question marks on our players & doubt where some can take us.

Cant speak for all but can vouch for many knockers of Graham/McGuane/Jackson/White etc over the years that is also the same case.

Oh really. That might take the cake for the greatest post ever.

9 touches, 5 clangers and looked classy. Please give me a spell.

Tried hard but was found wanting against a top team. Story of his life.

Looked classy. Good grief.

be sure and to read my match report on the top thread on Fursdy Scupa.

Does bringing the ball to ground when outnumbered show up in stats? Rucking against much bigger, specialist ruckmen? Sorry Good'n, but this is one of those cases where stats don't even tell half the story

1%ers, he had 2. You're wildly over-emphasising the effort part of his game. No doubt he tries harder than anyone and if you get votes for effort he'd probably win the Brownlow. I do admire your undying support of the McGuane's and Jackson's though, it is good to have negative feedback tempered by wildy over-enthusiastic ones.

As a free agent I'd be making his signature a priority now
I don't mind saying he be worth a late first round pick at the moment with his intensity, goal scoring and massive forward line scare factor

personally never been a fan of luke but acknoledge that he is playing his best football at the moment and is having a red hot go and contributing - well done Luke
i also believe that A.Edwards brings more hurt factor on the scorboard than Luke and can play deeper and allow a mid to play Lukes role

Why does it always have to be black and white?
Muscles played ok but certainly wasn't his best performance for the year. In saying that a lot of our best players had their worst performances for the year against a 'quality opponent'.

Luke's going fine up front this year by anyone's measure unless you have a bone to pick and quite a few do here. That's ok too.

Great work to play 100 games.
Well done to the Flying Pencil.
Hope he keeps it up.

I 'd say almost everyone unanimously agrees on this. HAs certainly deserved his spot in the team this year.

Congrats to Luke! He truly has made the position his own, hence why we call it the 'Luke Role'. I am also not ashamed to say I was an early believer and send out a few I Told You So's on here.
