He had 9 possessions and 5 clangers. Hate to see a bad day.

Unbelievable

Watch the game. He was huge. Beat multiple opponents, some classy touches, competed like a madman after TV and Maric injured.

Yeah well maybe the remaining 4 possessions might have been classy touches but the other 5 were clangers according to the stats. I was at the game, I really honestly can't remember him having a huge game. Yes he does compete like a madman and credit for competing valiantly in the ruck. He deserves his spot in the team but seriously in the top 3 for the night? That's really pushing it imo of course.

He had Mackies measure for a half if not 3 quarters. He made some Geelong defenders look silly at time.

That mark where he played on and left Enright and Mackie(?) floundering on the turf was a classic McGuane moment in reverse!

Tried hard as usual but struggled to impose himself on the game.

Or the goal on the run where he shrugged off his Geelong opponents like he was swatting away flies!

Yeah, he set up a goal by beating 2 opponents, kicked another very classy running goal, ran and competed all night, played in the ruck, brought the ball to ground a lot contesting in the fwd line, and more, all against a top side playing well. That is above and beyond his role.

I had a similar impression. A rockabilly raging bull.

Which part are you confused about? The 5 clangers? The not having a HUGE game? The competing like a madman? Credit for valiantly competing in the ruck? Or not being a top 3 for the Tigers for the night? Maybe I can end the confusion.

I call it as I see it and anyone that knows anything about afl sees it as well, unless they are flower sniffing rose coloured glasses wearing feral brightsiders who are resonsible for instilling a culture of mediocrity into the club for the past 30 years. :)
I really hope you're taking the you know what, Baloo, otherwise the world order is out of whack.

just confused between the disparity between his stats (9 possies, 5 clangers says "Atrocious, drop immediately") and what me and a fair few others seemed to see (reflected in votes on the top thread). Its not unusual for stats to confound me goody, so I wouldnt worry too much.

Out of interest Good'n, have you watched the replay? I thought he had a top game, all things considered, I really can't see how bagging is warranted in this case.

Tigersnake, yes I have I thought it as one of his poorer games this season. Not discounting his efforts in the ruck where he tried his darnest but as we'd expect well beaten. I don't quite understand why stating his statistics of 9 touches and 5 clangers is classed as bagging, it's stating a fact. Regardless as I have stated he has deserved his spot this year.

Oh really. That might take the cake for the greatest post ever.

9 touches, 5 clangers and looked classy. Please give me a spell.

Tried hard but was found wanting against a top team. Story of his life.

Looked classy. Good grief.

actually he had 2 free kicks against, so 3 of his disposals were clangers, not 5. this is backed up by his 66% disposal efficiency.

Wow. Different perspective of the same situation never ceases to amaze me. I still reckon people don't appreciate what his role is. He ain't Jack. Did heaps of work, all of it may not have shown up in the stats.

Also, you're giving him no credit whatsoever for putting in in the ruck. No credit for doing the dirty work. Did Chaplin go into the ruck?, Jack? Rance? all bigger than Luke. Geezus

Scoop you can scoff and splutter all you want, he had some classy touches last Sat. I was surprised, but there they were.

Yes, the point being 5 clangers is alot for a return of only 9 possesions or disposals. Giving free kicks aay is one of McGuane's historical weaknesses, in fact his career frees for is 55 for, 128 against. He is 2nd for average frees a game against this year. Maric is on top but is around the ball a lot more and of course plays ruck.

Does bringing the ball to ground when outnumbered show up in stats? Rucking against much bigger, specialist ruckmen? Sorry Good'n, but this is one of those cases where stats don't even tell half the story

Hey Scoop where did I say he looked 'classy'? Talk about adding mayo to suit your argmument!

Have a look at the game again and tell me what influence Mackie had on the game?

2 out of the 5 clangers were due to free kicks against.

What exactly do you expect from McGuane each week?

As for greatest posts ever................

I am still scoffing and spluttering. I haven't stopped.

Some classy touches??? He had 9 touches. 9 touches. 3 clangers. 6 touches over four quarters. One goal. So he had 5 touches in four quarters.

You would hope they were classy considering he touched it once a quarter.

You would hope that they are Maurice & Cyril Rioli like, the most golden touches of all time. I look forward to in depth look at this 5 magical touches and how classy they were.

Go ahead, I'll get the popcorn and back in 15. These five touches need to go down in footballing history.
