We have even more from the 2006 draft

Riewoldt
Grigg
Hislop
S Edwards
A Edwards
Petterd
Houli
Connors
Peterson
Collins
Collard
Kingsley-PSD
Clingan
King-RD

Seven of them are on the current list and six are playing in the senior team at present.

I was focusing more on the class of 2004 as opposed to retreads, so A.Edwards & K.Kingsley don't qualify, we also picked up Graham & Knobel in 2004 but they weren't included in the list. Still, 2006 was also an important draft from a Richmond perspective and has offered up a number of core footballers.

Interesting GenY interview on the AFL site. Drafted as a forward, he was only made a defender early in his career out of necessity due to a player getting an injury (Gaspar?) and due to our lack of KPD stocks at the time was left there until last year when it looked as if his clock was punched. Mark Williams, Dimma & mainly Luke himself suggested the change back to his natural position. He seems very happy to be back there too.

I had him pegged pretty early. Glad the powers that be caught on....

McGuane- Still reckon he is a natural forward. As CC said he qcquitted himself well today both forward and back.

That's a pretty fair effort from Whitey as a PSD selection, probably a shame he's unlikely to get 100 games and his name on his locker.

I can't see it happening either. Really hoping Whitey can crack the ton. It would be a big shame if he can't get there, he really loves the club and I'm certain it would mean a lot to him to get there.

Yep, White's definitely done well to eke out a career and probably deserves to hit the ton, it seems unlikely at this stage but with McGun resurrecting his career anything is possible.

And just to put our 2005 butchering effort into some perspective, here's a list of those players who have or are likely to crack 100+ games (and players who were within our reach).

M.Clark (9) - 96
S.Higgins (11) - 109
N.Jones (12) - 138
S.Hurn (13) - 125
G. Birchall (14) - 154
T.Varcoe (15) - 103
R.Douglas (16) - 117
C.Dempsey (19) - 77
G.Ibbotson (26) - 102
D.Addison (27) - 76
B.Vince (31) - 111
A.Swallow (43) - 132
J.Patfull (56) - 116
M.Stokes (61) - 134
J.Porplyzia (PSD 7) - 113
A.Toovey (RK 2) - 112
P.Duffield (RK 7) - 114
H.Hocking (RK20) - 83
M.Priddis (RK31) - 133
C.Stiller (RK 49) - 100
B. McGlynn (RK 55) - 107
K. Jack (RK 57) - 117

Worth noting that prior to this draft, some in the media were hailing it as one of the weakest of the decade, a talent pool lacking quality and depth. That proved to be well off the mark, and if one considers that Murphy, Thomas, Pendlebury, Kennedy and Ryder were also selected, the first round stacks up pretty well against any draft (including the superdraft of 2001).

Could we have done better? I reckon Paul the Octopus would have been more successful, lest we forget.

Incredible rookie draft. It just shows that there is no such things as a bad draft. Only bad picks.

To walk away with what we did is a shambles.

Lest we forget? I want that bastard well and truly forgot. Good call on Paul the octopus, would be an interesting excercise to randomly pull a name from a rough group of ball bark 1-10, 10-30 etc etc, and look back in 5 and 10 years. We could actually do it retrospectively based on old phantom drafts etc.

On second thoughts, you're right, lest we forget, so it never happens again.

Lol quoting one of my training reports, well I never

Needs to pack bust every pack tommorow and hurt them.
Reid gets injuried in nearly every game he plays in.
Big tackles mighty Mcguane :clap

I'm backing him to do it and then some.

Reckon with the other talent we have out there, he'll slot in nicely when needed.

Had a big preseason did Whitey.

thats got merit. double entendre too. Im sticking with jerry-lee. Im determined to sing the "we got chickens in the barn, which barn? whos barn? my barn!" line today in full voice in the faces of all the collingwood blokes, who seem to be really thick on the ground up my way and ive been listening to them pretend they have the analytical brain of mick malthouse for way too long. As a matter of fact, I wouldnt be at all surprised if im yelling "Chickens in the barn!" for a mcguane mark by the second quarter. By the last, when we are running a way with it, and Luke is wreaking havoc and my voice is frayed, I reckon it'll be simply "CHICKENS"

Most important player today, if he gets early goals, it will put massive pressure on there defence.
Vickery Needs to pluck some today also.
Big game can't wait
