Luke McGuane

I suppose the Coaches have to way up Lukes overall value compared to A Edwards's sharp shooting yet lack of ability to get a lot off it, Elton's rawness or Knights ability to play more upfield fwd role, then theres also Nahas for a different looking FWD line an then theres two smokeys for a KPF role an thats Astbury an Grif, cant knock him but a little more silk in the forward half would be nice

There was one passage of play that sums up what Muscles brings to the team.
A high ball into the forward line and 3 Saints defenders flying for a mark. Muscles crashed the pack - brought the ball to the ground - and our smalls got a clearance.
Miller, Post, Knights, A Edwards, Griffiths, Astbury all can't or couldn't do this.
It's the Muscles Speciality - bash and crash no matter how crude (or funny) it looks but win a contest or at worst break even in an out-numbered contest.
Well done Lukey. You're no gun. You're probably not even a bow and arrow. But you bring to the forward line a fierce desire to contest and not be beaten.
Along with Jakey and big Ty you bring mongrel to the forward set up.

Good post, except the 'not a gun' part.

Yeh great observation, not many would have picked this up, rather purely looking at quoting stats and output verus real "value" to the side.

Best pack buster since Brett Evans.
His broken 3 ribs, 2 collar bones and dislocated 1 shoulder on the opposition in just 2 games.
He is so awkward the umpires have no idea what to pay..

Awkward can be effective zips and that's what McGuane is at present.

He leads with his knees and I love that. Any one in front will come out very sore.
Even the ones he has no chance of grabbing he still effects the pack.
He needs to have a lot of goal killing practice, because his kicking for goal is ordinary
Image what his going to do to Reid (the bloke gets injured sneezing) :hihi

When was the last time Luke did a press conference?

That's what happens when he is played in his correct position. He thought he was Carey today, being asked if he enjoyed playing forward and kicking goals.
His got more goals then darling, cloke & brown... :clap

Lots of love for McGuane these days and not just here.
Articles in both Age and H-S today on his shift from backman to forward.

getting to see him as the 3rd tall. I dont recall too many games where he, Jack and Ty played (once Ty went down).. Battled as the 2nd tall (after he replaced Miller).... is having a ball as the 3rd tall with the other 2 in the team now.

Just needs to polish (as be mentioned in online) his kicking from free play, especially his snap shots. Can easily kick 35 - 40 goals this year. Opposition clubs now need 3 genuine backs to stop them... Would like another small at their with to help King out, where is Edwards at the drop of the ball in the first few rounds!!!??

I know a lot of his detractors say he is what he is and as a defender it's hard to debate however is he really WYSIWYG or is he potentially something more?
We could be seeing a genuine transformation here. Luke sees to be growing in confidence every week and relishing the switch forward to what appears a far more natural fit.
Rough edges remain but he's not the only forward ever to have those. He's capable of causing some real opposition headaches.
Hard to forsee where this is headed. Sit back and enjoy it.

I'm sure evo is enjoying it also ;D

Only at Richmond would a player like McDud make it as an afl footballer.

Test will come when we start against finals teams following this week.

Leysy's a doubter & still has his role pegged for requiring upgrade.

8 years of watching him tells leysy that.

yep definitely needs upgrading before we become a real force but doing an adequate job at the minute and setting the minimum required standard for the eltons edwards' griffiths etc before they are gifted games. thats a massive positive which in turn creates pressure for spots and higher training standards and most importantly that produces better coburg output and hungry footballers.

he's certainly doing a decent enough job and doesnt look like he will give up his spot without a fight

i'm loving the new richmond
