Little things that annoy you....

We have 4.

General Waste - Red
Recycling - Yellow
Green Waste - Green
Bottles/Glass - Purple

It ain't that complicated to work out what goes where TF.

Recylcing is the big mystery to me, you hear all sorts of stories around it. I assume the glass actually does get receycled?

How often to they collect the red bin in your neck of the woods MD J?

When visiting my sister in regional Victoria, I'm always amazed that her red bin only gets collected once a fortnight.

Yep, recycling bin (yellow) gets changed all the time. You can't throw paper towels in there....but paper and cardboard is accepted...huh?..what?

Got the same here, our general waste bin is the smallest and gets collected weekly.
Green waste, yellow recycling collected fortnightly, glass monthly.
Not that hard to manage

Im guessing that's a separation thing.
Paper/cardboard easier to separate from plastics but the paper towels break up too early in the proceess

WTF. Are you a closet tea bagger or something Delly? :)) :)) :)) Gotta have a morning coffee or two to crank the day up, but *smile* if I'd ever stand in line or queue up at them drive through's waiting half a lifetime for the privilege of paying someone to bring me a coffee in a paper n plastic cup.
Tea all the way young fella. Get a good dunk morning and night.
And with milk too. From the cow, just dont tell the nuts

Just to put an end to this silly debate, we have a dictionary from nearly 300 years ago calling plant milk- milk. & a dictionary from today calling plant milk- milk.
But some on here don't think we should call plant milk- milk?

Any other long standing dictionary definitions people want changed?
The looney anti-milkers have gone very quiet. Sucked in by the main stream big dairy propaganda.

Soon they'll take away our right to juice.

Same here. General waste just once a fortnight. Terrible. There's a massive fight on in our council about it right now.

As for 4 bins, you do realise how unworkable that is for apartment blocks and such ? Not to mention having to do all the separation work with different internal bins only for the council to make money out of it whilst shafting the resident on the general garbage that they want taken out each week - but can't because the council dont make any money out of it.

"Apartment blocks", townhouses and villas, that's another bugbear of mine.

When suburbs or parts of suburbs get rezoned, you can end up with 3 or 4 dwellings on the one block. Renters sharing a 3 bedroom villa or the like, they've all got a car, there's no room for them, so they park on the street.
Some streets are full of townhouses and villas on both sides, there's cars everywhere, you can hardly squeeze through when driving through. **** I hate that.

the housing crisis and the demolition of beautiful older homes
building 'up' because of population and maximising land use
it's weird to return to certain suburbs and not recognise them
there's less sky

yep.

When new apartments get build the amount of parking is never enough. Of course the developers don't want to build car parking space they want to maximise the number of dwellings.

All i can say is that in Melbourne whoever has done the work on carparking/dwelling ratios in apartment blocks has got it wrong and with the push for more inner city apartments it is only going to get worse.

The whole density thing in and around transport hubs makes sense on face value eg Camberwell, Ringwood whatever. But the reality is that unlike places like NYC, Paris, London etc we do not have the high level PT coverage like they do. You can just about get anywhere in those cities on PT. Not so in Melbourne.

To that end, people in apartments still require a car - or at least they seem to feel they do.

Must admit, pretty hard to go to Bunnings or IKEA or take the kids to some schools out in the burbs on a train or tram, or get to a golf course or whatever on PT.

Places like Camberwell - Bourke Road are traffic disasters already so can't imagine what'll be like with heaps of 9 storey apartments. You won't be able to get in or out by car. You won't be able to park anywhere if you can.

Real issue is a lack of PT investment that should have started 50 years ago (or more).

Green weekly
Red smaller and once / 2 weeks
Blue once / 2 weeks

Most stuff goes in the green or blue so I don’t mind it.

The blue makes you realise how much plastic/glass/tins is 1 way stuff.

Ours is small too. And its f/n. It's totally ***. It's so bad everyone in our street runs around at night trying to find a neighbour with some space in their bin.

Typical of the modern age. Pay more, get less and less service and less and less value for things. You even have to pick up the slack for the supplier of said services or goods by doing half their work for them nowadays. Like self admin or self servicing. You do the work but pay more. Coles and Woolworths a classic on that front. Airlines as well.

"Oh we don't do that. You do."

VIC gov putting costs up 30% next year so will just get worse.

We’ve been dumping our crap in low cost countries who are starting to say no and price of landfill also going up. Also those warehouses with toxic *smile* in them that catch fire also being shut so no free ride there.

Society is structured on what are very long term unsustainable practices.

Remember the metal rubbish bins back in the day all dented and the lids didn't fit on them. Blokes with builds like Billy Barrot, running in front of the truck and throwing them in.
