List Management 2023

Would anyone do a Powell Pepper swap for Soldo?
He offers something similar to KMac, he's a gut runner, he's reasonably quick but he can occasionally shank his kicks. I would say an upgrade but only marginal, you would be better served using the Soldo capital on a tall like Marshall.

melbourne have a strong midfield group, they don't need another. They need forwards
They have Van Rooyen, Jefferson, McDonald & Fritsch, could maybe do with an upgrade on Schache but he's really only there as bare bones back-up.

Van is a hit and miss player, Mcdonald is more backman than forward (his past efforts were not to standard ), Fritsch is the better of the three.

McDonald has registered a 53 goal season, he's a solid option up forward, there's also Ben Brown, probably past his used-by date but pretty good back-up whilst the youngsters get up to speed. Melbourne have good forward depth compared to many clubs, particularly Richmond.

What's Prestia worth? He wants out
Not by the pictures on his holiday.
already Broad called this as
GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

Similar to what has happened to Wines at Port he wins a Brownlow as a centre man and now that Bulters and Rossee and HF are in there he looks finished.
Tarranto took Prestias position this year.
Prestia can't be a winger or half foward.
Realistically looking back the Hopper trade shouldn't have happened. Because now you have both Hopper & Prestia who cannot play outside roles.
I would love a Petty to Richmond, I've always liked players that can move positions.
Prestia to Melbourne for Petty
Petty won’t be be coming.
you can park That thought bubble.

Disagree. McDonald and Brown are passed it, Jefferson, to date, hasn’t even got a game yet to show his worth. Yeah he may end up being a very good player but nothing as of today.

VR and Frisch are good value.

Jefferson was always a slow burn but you can't knock Melbourne's strategy, 2022 they selected a KP player and 2021 they went tall, forward thinking and even if Jefferson is a bust they are doing what's needed to be done, that is getting 4 year project players through the doors whilst they can still cover bases with the likes of McDonald, Brown & Schache. These guys are peripheral but they ultimately serve a purpose.

It's also worth remembering JVR played VFL last year, tall forwards rarely produce AFL quality in their first season. Jefferson hasn't set the world alight (23.17) but he's a featherweight, very similar physique to Marshall when he was drafted. He's probably shown as much as Cadman and I certainly wouldn't be writing off the number 1 pick at this early stage.

Brown would be lost in the way we deliver the ball into the F50. He is a lead and mark in the clear forward.

He's had an amazing career for such a one dimensional player, he's like a relic of the eighties, a frizzy haired Simon Beasley.

Jefferson’s year is a solid B+ for a light tall in his first year.

If the Dees get Duursma with JVR, Jefferson and Kozzie it’s a frightening mix for the next 10 years.

The Dees may have 2 quality future prospects but you cant say their current key forward stocks are good.
JVR is probably their best KPF right now. He kicked 28 goals this year. He has might have great potential but he isnt near being a no1 forward for a premiership contender right now.
McDonald has kicked over 20 goals in a season once in the 6 seasons since he kicked 50 in 2018. He cant get on the park and when he does he hasnt shown anything like the form he did in 2018.
They went into a prelim with McDonald as their only key forward, with medium talls, Fritsch and Smith, while the likes of Schache and Brown sat on the bench and in the stands.

The Dees lost 2 finals they should have won because they could not kick goals.

Agree

The dees like us managed 1 flag by timing their run with some quality players across the park all playing well at the same time.but the difference from then onwards is stark - we got Lynch and he delivered us 2 more, without Lynch I reckon we would be just where the Dees are, 1 flag dynasty.

Can‘t underestimate the impact Lynch had on our structure and performance during the 19 and 20 finals series.

They kicked 9.17 against Carlton, that type of conversion won't win you finals. Structurally they are competitive, Gawn also has a presence so running with an apprentice not an issue. McDonald perhaps was underdone this year but 33 goals in 2021 suggests he still has value if he can manage a clean bill of health.
