Port into Soldo apparently. Their first pick is pick 37 - definitely not enough

Wonder why given Sweet who's a ruckman has nominated them as his preferred club as well as two key defenders (Zerk-Thatcher & Ratugolea).

I went to the St Kilda Elimination Final.
I hadn't seen Briggs before.
He's come from out of nowhere.
He smashed St Kilda in the ruck, averaging 7 clearances too.
He only played 9 games in the past two years, 15 this year.
He is only 25 when he comes out of contract.

Would anyone do a Powell Pepper swap for Soldo?
No.
He looks tough. He throws his weight around. But too often he is beaten in the contest.
Its interesting that Port have shifted him out of the midfield and promoted Rozee and Butters to fulltime. Both agile, swift onballers. Thats the type we need

The new coach needs to be ruthless and move on those past their sell-by date. If we want success we cannot afford sentiment on past glories.
I dont really get it.
The players had contracts which included clauses that extended the contract if certain conditions were met. So if they've played x amount of games in 2023 then the contract extends to 2024.
What does the new coach do? Cut the players and pay out their contracts? Kinda cutting the old nose from the old face.
And not good for harmony and club trust.
Or send them to the reserves?
We played plenty of kids this year. Its a balance because too young a side can cause the team to flounder.

I'd expect the new coach to treat every player on merits and judge on performance and professionalism. Not gifting games to juniors or seniors.

Benefit of a new coach is, he's got no current sentiment towards any of the current players. he'd have an idea of a "best 22" but spots will be open to change over the off season etc.

This is the key :

100% an outside coach is far better by a mile. smash the politics of the last 3 years.

I think it’s going to get much worse before we start the climb again. I can’t see how anyone could turn this list around in less than 5 yrs.

1 aging KPF, who’s getting injured
No blue chip mids under 25yrs
No guaranteed to make it KPD’s under 25yrs (Hopeful on Gibcus and Young, but still a ways to go before they are guns)

No first round draft pick this year

Sheesh

Things can turn around, and it can seem worse than it is, but it looks grim at the moment. Will be something pretty special if we can do it in less than 5yrs from this position

I agree somewhat, but it's why I defend the 2 recruits from last year. Can you imagine how grim it would look if we didn't have Taranto and Hopper right now? We need some leadership through this thing and some senior players to keep us competitive, and those guys help us do that. We'll then need at least a few years of picks to get back up there, it's going to be a process.

What's Prestia worth? He wants out
It’s funny about Prestia this year….Clearly our best midfielder last year and we made finals and actually did beat Brisbane in the first final but were cheated out of it…..I think Prestia got injured in that game, so the view of a lot of us was we probably wouldn’t have gone far into September without him. So in 2022 we really depended on him and he was right up there as a top midfielder in the comp…..Yet this year - we bring in Taranto and Hopper and Prestia just drops right away. Shadow of prior years performance level. Did he just hit the wall age wise? Injuries? Bit of a mystery I reckon.

Similar to what has happened to Wines at Port he wins a Brownlow as a centre man and now that Bulters and Rossee and HF are in there he looks finished.
Tarranto took Prestias position this year.
Prestia can't be a winger or half foward.
Realistically looking back the Hopper trade shouldn't have happened. Because now you have both Hopper & Prestia who cannot play outside roles.
I would love a Petty to Richmond, I've always liked players that can move positions.
Prestia to Melbourne for Petty

melbourne have a strong midfield group, they don't need another. They need forwards
No they don't
In a fairy tale world doofus would love to play Petracca forward with Oliver and Viney in the guts but he knows deep down Viney is close to worse midfielder on the comp.
