Interesting podcast and certainly confirmed what many have been observing over the past season.

Some of the more noteworthy observations-

...

- Anthony Miles appears to be a very astute selection in the tradition of Moneyball (a reference that Champion Data cheekily like to avoid and replace with their own trademark)

...

What I found interesting was he said something like he knows how to find the ball. Conversely he said juniors who can't find the ball at Under 18's rarely can find the ball at AFL level. Made me think of our number 24...

I found the Hampson comments most interesting, I suspect the club's use of champion data contributed to us targeting Hampson. Disappointing however that there was no analysis of Megan.

I think we do put quite a bit of emphasis on the number crunching but it's worth remembering that Blair has been a long time fan of Hampster, even as far back as his Port days. So much so, he was even willing to part with a top ten pick at one stage. But there's no denying that the taps to advantage are ruck gold when it comes stats, even better when you get one of the best in the business for a pick in the thirties. And for all his faults on the kicking front, Hampson was actually a dead-eye in front of goal in 2012, delivering an exceptional 15.4. Fingers crossed he recaptures that form and remains relatively healthy for most of the season.

It's true, given Miles was AA in his u/18 year and had the highest average disposals out of the entire pool must be cause for optimism. Issues like kicking depth and outside capabilities should be secondary concerns, particularly for a rookie pick. I think Miles stands a pretty good chance of becoming a 100 gamer.

Hopefully multiple positions!

Spends most of her time on the bench, with brief stints in the pocket.

What position does she play ?

If your fortunate enough to be a monogomyst, you want your misses to be a CHF. You want some swagger. You want her hitting the pack at full tilt, with the flight of the ball if the situation demands. You want her taking the big grabs at pivotal moments and , when the game is in the balance, she needs to be able to grab it by the horn and wrestle the momentum your way, get back on top and drive home the advantage.

Either that, or you want an outside mid, a smooth finisher. Once again, the Bean thread delivers. :clap

Nope, you want a swinger that can play both ends.

There has been this much anticipation about a young gun and when he will make he debut since Jack was running around with Coburg. Lets hope he is as good or Jack or even better.

- Lennon looks like another inspired Francis Jackson pick, continuing his outstanding record of first rounders.

As I said to Tigerdog at the draft, we could have selected Lennon without a recruiting network. FJ and the team earn their money by picking up guys like Liam McBean in good drafts or tracking Lloyd over a season or two when the draft is paper-thin.

I don't know who makes the recruiting decisions of recycled players but Banfield and miles are very good cheap gets.

I read those articles and concluded that they were written by sheep-clone insight virgins. No mention of our man's mighty glutes.

I'm surprised every Bean article doesn't start by talking about his awesome ripped upper body

I agree with what you are saying but I'm not sure FJ can gain too much credit for the McBean selection. McBean was listed on the AFL website inside the top 30. We passed over him at 30 to take McIntosh, and risked someone else taking him. A pick 33 selection of McBean could also have been done without a recruiting team - this was not a surprise IMO. McIntosh on the other hand was a surprise selection, jury is out on that one.
