God I hope he can play or a lot of people are going to look silly.

I think people are genuinely excited because as a baby he has shown some serious potential. I think there were 2 games last year at VFL level where he kicked either 5 goals in one game & 6 in another ? Or a couple of sets of five ? Comparing that to guys like Post & Griffo - who despite significantly longer periods on our list did/have not. I think he will be a player we really need to get the balance on his physique corrent. He is agile for a big guy & has excellent foot skills but is skinny as a rake. Obviously he needs to bulk up but would think to maintain that agility - he would end need to end up like a Roger Merrett & Dean Cox build. Don't want a Shane Mumford result or he would lose his agility. Richard Lounder went down that path & could hardly move.

I get the hype becuase he is a natural goalkicker which you can't teach, and is super agile for 200cm+. Big issue is developing physcially so he can stand up to senior footy. I think 6 games this year would be a good result, but in a couple of years he could be a really dangerous forward.

I think if there are no injuries dimma should rest maric probably once every 5 weeks which will mean hampson graduates to first ruck vickery to ruck forward and mcbean or Elton come in to play kpf no. 2. This should be a win win. Maric is rested and we get development into players who hopefully have earnt it.

Wind up merchant. :D ;D

He has talent, no doubt, but let the kid develop in a controlled fashion.

The main thing is getting his body in a shape to handle to rough and tumble of AFL. This may take another 1-2 preseasons so be patient.

I can agree that we need to control our excitement a little however i can see why the expectations are growing so quickly.

In 2012 nobody would have compared him to say Joe Daniher.

Come the 2013 season, McBean's improvement curve has just kept going up. In fact at the point where he went down with the injury he was going up another notch having bagged 6 goals and then 5 before going down the following week with an injury and 1.4 to his name.

The other thing about McBean is that if you are beating him in the air he's not out of it. His ability to crumb and get the ball to boot quickly and accurately is amazing for a) a guy his size and b) a guy his size that's 18 years old and shouldn't have co-ordinated yet!

Who knows where his upside will finish? I don't but i'm looking forward to finding out in the next few years!

Without being a trying to be a smartarse I think he was El Capitano of his school team with one J. Daniher in the same team. I also think some at his junior club, Aberfeldie may have compared the two.

The main difference between Daniher and Mcbean is that Daniher had the advantage of being of Essendon's leading edge fitness programme in 2012.

Not quite true, jimbob.
While Post played primarily down back in his last season with us, he did kick 6 goals in a game in 2012 after being switched forward at half time.
Returned to defence for Coburg the next week.

Post - He was down back in the first half, and then Gus was sent off and McGuane hurt his knee in the first 10 minutes so was moved forward after half time. The man was on fire in the 3rd and booted 5 and then went on to kick another in the last and set one up for Arnot. Needs to be used up forward more as he actually looked dangerous where as in defence he doesn't even utilise his marking ability.

Hopefully this kid could be the surprise package of the comp next year.
I hope hardwick doesn't turn him into a defender

Isn't that what this club normally does to ruin the carreer of promising KP forwards. Will be CHB for Richmond VFL next year for sure.

Hence Griffo. I remember when Griffiths was selected by us Kevin Sheehan said 'this kid could be the next Tony Lockett'. Surely that means he was a forward and should be developed as one. I do understand getting the defensive side of things into his game but for god sake, try him forward!!!
As for McBean, lets hope he comes on this year, you can never have too many key forwards. GWS will have Boyd, Cameron & Patton.

Griffo was played up forward for his first season or two. Playing him down back was an attempt to improve on deficiencies that he showed as a forward.

Griffiths and Elton (and Post) were given ample opportunity up forward. They only got shunted back so that they might get a kick or improve other deficiencies.

This constant nauseating refrain that our development coaches are nongs is really tiresome.

Blokes that showed something tangible forward didn't get shunted back - ie Riewoldt and Vickery.

And our development of defenders Rance, Grimes and now Darrou is first class as is the general improved defensive work of players like Houli and Deledio.

The Coburg alignment probably didn't help because it is hard to justify playing Griff at full forward when Clifton or Carnell would do a better job.

This year I assume Griff and Elton will play key forwards in the twos come hell or high water and then most likely be flicked at year's end.

PS Beanie is a legend whom the development nongs in their dumbness have played forward all year. Go figure!
