The problem is there wasn't even promise at senior level. No chance of powering his way in contests (how could it be a professional footballer can't add more bulk than that in 3 years?), and his ground level ability required the kind of time you don't get in the seniors. He could have had more chances, for sure, but I can't say I am panicked by the threat of his future performances elsewhere.

He's a tall 21 year old. You don't delist talls that are killing it in VFL at such an early age. Regardless of his performance in the seniors.

In saying that- a spattering of minimal senior selections, with minimal game time, followed by immediate omissions, certainly didn't provide Liam with the opportunity to succeed at senior level.

And if you think he hadn't bulked up - check out his junior videos.

Liam was always drafted (as are all talls) as a prospect player. The idea of a prospect player is to not expect immediate results.

Liam provided much faster than expected results at VFL level, as a prospect, and they still delisted him.

I'm not saying he was ever going to be a world beater- but now we'll never know what he was going to be, because we simply didn't give him a sufficient chance.

perfect summation, Jinx. well said.

I reckon there has to be some other reason for this other than potential ability. Possibly attitude and/or application.

I'm personally sad to see Liam go, having spoken to him a couple of times seemed a great kid.

Unfortunately he didn't seem to be able to bulk up, he certainly grew up and filled out.

But never really looked like a key position player.

Seemed to get pushed off the ball and under the ball a lot.

Great ground ball skills for a big man and an eye for goal.

Hope he does well with what ever he chooses to do.

Reality time.

Did he ever really come back the same player after he injured his ankle?
This year in particular in the VFL I didn't see the amazing ground level skills at that many here keep harping on about.
He was more like a lumbering baby giraffe.
He never really took any game by the scruff of the neck in 2016. Plateaued & even went backwards a bit.
He had very little impact at all in the AFL games he was gifted.

Anyways I wish him all the best.

Didn't like the body on body contact.
No chance of making it

Time will tell if he gets picked up by a competent AFL club that can develop tall players better - which means potentially about 12 others.

He has the advantage of not playing sufficient senior football at Richmond to have all of his natural instincts totally destroyed so he may be a tempting prospect compared to some others on our list that are probably beyond salvation wherever they end up.

I'd agree & too easily brushed aside in overhead marking contests. In his AFL games this year, didn't like how he often flew for overhead marks with only one arm up. As with Vickery, I'd be amazed if he made it anywhere else.

I reckon all the punters liked Beanie. Sceptics and stalwarts.

He didn't go on as an athlete and that was root cause of his demise IMO. A smart player. If he doesn't have any luck getting a new AFL club he can still be useful at VFL level. Hopefully we see a bit more of him.

Sorry to see him go too. Very young for a tall to be cut, especially when our big-man stocks are rapidly diminishing - MCkenzie gone, Ty going, EEvan may be finished at AFL, Griff unsigned still. What depth will be remaining?

Not sure what is the thinking.

Contracts aside, as we know they're not the RFC's strong point, I wonder what they see in Elton, that they don't see in McBean?

They see a two year contract signed one year ago (lol).

Waddya doing here, Carts? You should be up and about with Lambchops shelving analgesic narcotics and lamenting in as yet undiscovered languages. (Ackshelly hallucinogenics might be better for the undiscovered language thing. No wait. Ice.)

You've fought your fight and lost. This is the poet's moment.

wish I was young enough to play the drunken, hallucinating poet, Jack :hihi

Get around it, Carts! You're never too old to hallucinate.

The thinking is that Liam isn't a genuine tall or certainly doesn't play like one.

Would of kept him till after trade period. Might get some one of value if you threw in Sheds as well.

Clubs normally do if there is any interest. Even accepting a throw away pick to help the player get to where he wants to go. You'd have to assume if McJesus gets another shot, it will be PSD or Rookie

I guess we'll find out soon enough if this is the case, but I can see the same thing happening with McBean as happened with McDonough.
