I can remember the first part of an Angels' concert at the Ballarat Civic Hall.

I was there also. It was so loud that I was hearing humming for the next two days. Blame them for my lousy hearing to this day.

I think everyone can agree, Liam's VFL performances have deserved more than 5 AFL games.

Whether or not we think he'll make it, he should have played more AFL games by now.

And to give him a 3 game spell to determine whether or not he stays at the club- after years of consistently performing in the VFL, is unfair.

Yep that's the crux of it. Topped the VFL goal kicking list but up until 3 weeks ago he had been given just 2 (part) games at AFL level. Then he's expected to turn the world alight in a couple more AFL games otherwise banished back to the VFL and replaced by a long-term underachiever who doesn't really want to play AFL footy at a time when our results over the next 5 weeks mean nothing except for the coach's job security.

I heard Dimma only played him him in the AFL so that Liam couldn't win another Frosty Miller....... :help

yeah it was loud. I was the kid with the mullet, a red flanny and a half of jim beam. i guess that only narrows it down to about 300 :hihi

1987-8?

Out of interest who out of those guys were 18 at the time and who was 22?

Also do you have stats comparing them after 4 years on an AFL list? Just out of interest.
The difference is that those blokes had games pumped into them from a young age and were persisted with. McBean hasnt.

He's not as tall but James Sicily is a similar age to Liam. He played 3 games in his first 3 years at Hawthorn. He's played 17 this year and has earned his spot. When Liam hasn't had the best of seasons in the VFL and didn't do a real lot in the AFL I have no issues with kids developing at the lower grade. Liam has had a taste. Hope it inspires him to work harder for bigger and better things.

Hopefully, but it won't be at Richmond.

Quite obvious Dimma dislikes him for some reason.

Yep. Only way to do it.

Yep. Look at it this way, Elton is barely noticed but gets a 2 year extension and a praise from Dimma in that he's athletically built. Beano, however, is still skinny and light, but doesn't impress Dimma and gets shoved aside.

The execution of Beany is extraordinary.

I picked 3 great CHF's and 1 who got lucky in a great side and looked at their 5 game averages. I picked them without knowing their numbers. No selecting stats to prove my point.

Dermie, Jon Brown, Buddy and Mooney

Dermie 4M 12D 2G
JB 2M 5D 0G
Moons 1M 4D 0G
Buddy 3M 10D 1G

theirs 14 flags at CHF between those blokes. probably only Derm would have passed PRE's expectations.

Beanie 2M 5D 0G. SO Bean outstats Jon Brown and Moons (5 flags, CHF's) on the 5 game averages.

Of course, 5 game averages are entirely absurd. Which is my point.

blah blah blah.

5 game averages are absurd but all of those players had either athletic gifts or aggression. Which of these two traits does Beanie have despite being taller than all of them?

Fair point. Bean at 18 had all the tools to compete at senior AFL level. Check out the guns.

Even so, let's compare that with a picture of the young Dermott Brereton:

Dermie's got the Bean covered in terms of muscle mass but it's a close run thing between Liam and the Big M girl

Doubt dermatologist was 18 in that picture.

The shorts the big m girl is wearing need to make a come back.

I reckon he'd be 18. The blonde dermie came in 1984 from memory. Debuted at 17 in '82.
