So you make a flippant (and false) comment about me not having seen him play yet you haven't seen him play this year (or maybe 1 game) and you judge him as top 18 on our list. :hihi

But are you pleased for him that he did what the coaches and you asked that he do to get a game in the seniors.

I judge the list on quality of footballer.

I am happy for every Tiger who plays well. You didn't sound too impressed with a report you posted about Liam..prompting others to ask if you even saw him. Don't forget he had a poor effectiveness rating. Top 18 players shouldn't turn over almost half of their possessions in the AFL let alone playing VFL. i hope Liam is a top 18 Tiger in time...it's fantasy to claim he's there yet just the same.

All due respect, Rosy, I think you may be overstating his "effectiveness rating". He used the ball extremely well on the weekend, and was one of the few who was able to actually create by hand and foot. The game was extremely scrappy, and Richmond as a whole were unable to find space.

Beanie was often delivering into an undermanned forward line (as shown by his four inside fifties), and the ball was chopped off by the defenders a few times. But he was also able to pick through that a few times, and set up a number of shots on goal.

Also had a beautiful use by hand to set up a bloke running into an open goal (who then missed).

There's absolutely nothing wrong with his skill, ball use, speed of mind, or decision making.

In fact, this has always been his strength and he certainly would be top 18 on our list in this particular facet of his game.

The knock from the coaches has always been about his big man game. And on the weekend he was the dominant big man on the field. Contested marking (4), marks around the ground (10) and generally making contests (worked extremely hard).

He's putting his hand up for selection, certainly.

The question is whether (a) there is a spot for him or (b) the coach is willing to experiment with structures to include him.

60% effectiveness isn't terrible for a guy playing the role he played on the weekend. Better than a few of his colleagues in the seniors!

Not that the stats tell the whole story. It's the quality of the effective disposals that really matters (ranged from good to a couple of genuinely sublime touches), and the often weird definition of what constitutes 'ineffective' (eg genuine clangers vs a good kick to advantage that the intended recipient somehow manages to stuff up).

And yeah, I watched him play (given that seems to be the new prerequisite when it comes to voicing an opinion on the Beanster these days.)

Anyway, from what I've seen, I rate him and would love to see him developing his game in the seniors, the way others have been afforded the opportunity to do.

Re-invent Liam McBean

I see many people knock Liam McBean. And I see many people demand he get a go in the team. Can he be re-invented as a backman playing Troy Chaplin's role? I saw him last year against Collingwood when we over run them after a slow start. I think he could be made into a good back.

Re: Re-invent Liam McBean

2 ways to re invent him. Get rid of hardwick or trade him to another club

Whist Hardwck has a say in selection there will be no second coming of the Messiah

Disagree. The compliments and positive comments about McJesus's game have come from many sources at RFC. The cynical would say it's an Organised campaign to let McJesus know he's doing what's been asked.

They'll give him a run soon as long as he keeps up last weeks effort and intent.

and thats why he won't be chosen.

others play *smile* in VFL and get games...McBean on the other hand will never get a game regardless of how well he plays.

Re: Re-invent Liam McBean

A typical mind set for our Punt Road bean counters would be to trade him for Jerka jenkins plus our No 1 trade pick .

I hope we don't go for Jenkins, he'd be a failure at Richmond. Don't think he's any better than what we've got. Loves a cheap over the back goal.
