Liam McBean

Repeat last post, with addition - Yes, agree our VFL is rubbish, especially poor in midfield which every other AFL team values highly and recruits accordingly, except it seems, RFC, along with quality kicking.

Think McBean is only 21, still lightly-muscled. Has time, but needs to find more at present.

Anyway, over and out. Sick of endless, circular bickering.

Form usually means RECENTLY, like when Griffiths and McBean played together, or even last games. See relevant post. See Travis Cloke for example - there's AFL career and now.

"VFL Report, Rd. 5
Liam McBean
One goal, nine disposals, three marks

Struggled on the day. He had limited opportunity early, but his connection with the other forwards was poor. We need a stronger four-quarter contribution from him."

........

Very disappointing when there is a spot up for grabs. Earn it Liam. Not sure why people build him up as the best thing since sliced bread. Those who actually see the games, the stats and the coaches reports tell a different story.

No wonder Taylor keeps getting a game.

Taylor Hunt
25 disposals, 18 uncontested possessions, six marks, 11 handball receives

Continues to work hard. His workrate off the ball and ability to turn the footy over in defence is a real standout.
Yer, saw that. Had to laugh. Least he's consistent VFL/AFL !

Aaah that gave me a laugh. The bloke that gets 4 or 5 goals every second week last 13 games needs to earn it and Griff who has scored 4 goals once in his seven years with Richmond at any level gets a free pass.

They used to say only in America, Perhaps only at Richmond does this type of thinking permeate.

umm I do realise that, it was part of a VFL convo

Fair enough. I looked at the stats sheet. Doesn't seem to be many notable forwards listed. Who played forward?

The VFL stats always seem to be different to ours eg they have Marcon with 29 possessions we have him at 27.

VFL: Beanie given 2 goals and 10 possession. RFC 1 and 9.

You'd think ours should be correct.

Griffiths return was only a little better than this, but it was at AFL level. Double the value.

Anyway, I've posted at least twice now - play him, rest Jack, year's a write-off, happy to see him succeed - anything to end this thread dragging on forever like this.

where were you when Bean kicked 5 the other week. he could have used your analysis

Where was the Bean in the other four games? What's the analysis of the rest of his season so far?

Happy for the Bean to get a run at senior level, problem is that our VFL form is as bad as our AFL form. Starvation corner for most of our forwards, can't see how the Bean is gunna perform any better than our regular AFL forwards if he's got to step up a grade and cop the same type of constipated crap forward delivery as he's already getting n struggling to perform consistently with at magoos level.

I go to around ten VFL games a year, sometimes just to watch Liam play. He's an exciting prospect shackled by an incompetent football program.

That may well be true, Baron Carter ... but there is also evidence to suggest that McBean has shackled his own development through lack of desire and attitude.

hahah I go to all of them unless I am interstate & yes he is an exciting prospect but to say he is shackled by an incompetent football program is nonsense

This year's form is far more relevant than the last 8 games you selectively include from last season. In a year where Richmond is crap and they'd be hanging out for a new face to contribute and lift everyone's spirits you'd think Liam would have improved from last year. Reading the reports from those at the game he's not doing too much at all.

yes, so you keep saying.

alas, this doesn't automatically confer wisdom (for any of us).

Is that comment from the same person who has repeatedly had cracks at people's opinions based on what they see on telly rather than going to a game? ;)
