Liam McBean

If he was say a pick 10 I reckon I'd still be happy on the potential he has shown for a 202 cm skinny kid in his first 2 seasons, his got some special talents for that size, however his a pick in the 30s an couldn't be much happier at this point with his progression

Ha, it's amazing how perception goes as soon as the season finishes. Beanie was kicking bags regularly, didn't get a game because we were pushing for finals, didn't want to change the side, and had a surplus of talls anyway (with Vickery unable to get back). He was knocking on the door on form, but couldn't break through at the time. He'll play regularly next year, and be kicking bags by 2016.

37 goals for the year?

How many bags did he kick?

He had a slow start to the year, and missed 5 matches through injury - the 37 goals don't do him justice.

He kicked two bags of 5 goals, two bags of 4 and a couple of 3's.

Not bad for a 20 yo 202 cm guy with an injury interrupted year, and no preseason playing in a side that finished bottom 5.

Let's just relax before we write him off because he hasn't kicked enough goals in the last 4 weeks.

Too skinny.
Trade him to the bulldogs for a 3rd round pick at best.
The same clowns pumping up his tires the same ones who raved about Plapp.
And were did he end up.

Kid could be anything up to instruction and hard work... Go Beanie, should play games next year

Don't knock Bentleigh, where would footy be without Luke Beveridge?

Not writing him off.
Just saying lets wait and see before we starting building up as the second coming.

Melbourne's reserves coach at Casey.

If he missed 5 games, then vfl is only 18 games, so 37 goals from 13 games is brilliant, best at our club and few if any better per game in gfl or afl.

Pretty sure Dan connors won it with 38 goals, so yep good effort in 13 odd games. Hype away!

It's nice when we're in full agreement CT.

Well said.

I don't think the baggers on here are seeing much VFL footy.

He is a talent for sure but also Tim Clark was right about what he needs to work on and having stuff to work on as a 20 year old KPP is hardly a surprise. His pressure when he didn't have the ball could have been a lot better and if he could take more marks he would be even more dangerous.

But he is a very good young player and we have a lot to look forward to in coming seasons imo.

Normally I would agree Sin but McBean is a special case.

I am loathe to see him instructed to trap the ball in the forward line to maintain possession.

I would see him run forward of the ball, create scoring opportunities for himself, use his smarts, his guile, his amazing goal sense.

He reminds me of Buddy.

Perhaps not as athletic or imperious, but our version of Buddy but with more grunt and leadership.

Let's enjoy McJesus, not stifle him.

The stifling has already been done by those who see him as the second coming of Royce Hart blended with Buddy for the last two years, and yet he still hasn't played a senior game. Suggest we all chill out and wait til he does so. For my part don't wanna trade him, but don't want to stifle him with ridiculous expectations either.

Wait and see - I'm hoping the brains trust have big plans for him.

Expectations can take on a life of their own, particularly from those who haven't seen him play.

I prefer to use empirical evidence.

Glad you don't want to trade him though :hihi

I'm not sure he'll be stifled by our expectations. Slightly overestimating our reach here at PRE. I trust the coaches are a little less florid than Carter when providing the young fella with some feedback. I, for one, aim to put the cart well before the horse when it comes to Beanie. It's just more fun that way.

He will be given ample time to prove himself (signed a 2 yr contract a month or so ago).

Given he almost won the VFL goalkicking award after missing a fair amount of games due to injury I'm sure the club will expect him to take the next step and improve all round putting pressure for a senior spot mid-late 2015.

Plenty of players set the VFL stage on fire but stink it up on the AFL stage.

Wait and see.

Agree with this too (something must be wrong).

I went to the last VFL game this year and watched a hamstrung Beanie diligently follow his defender around the ground and put himself out of the contest for three quarters. I watched him shepperd for team mates and tackle his opponent. I watched him position himself in all the defensive position when his greatest strength is positioning himself in attacking positions. The opposition coach would have loved it.

It's like playing Buddy as a full back.

Let Beanie be Beanie, let Arnott smash up his opponent.
