Juniors to watch - 2012

Thats what was said about the Deledio draft setting the club up ;D

Fully aware of that. Generation Next ring a bell?

Even if this draft is not as strong as people are suggesting I think we are better placed to identify talent now. We also have a much stronger talent base to build upon this time around.

Anyway, without hope it would be pretty sould destroying following the Tigers.

Difference was that year was a very weak draft. The top 5 were well known and beyond that it was a lottery. So many from the top 25 that year have failed to fire.

Adam Pattison couldnt even make the Vic Metro team and was taken at 16.

This year will be a signficantly stronger draft.

187cm ball winning midfielder. Big fan. Would slot in nicely.

Very nicely. Likely to be a very early pick though :(

Not so sure, this draft is stacked with talent. Clubs will value others higher then some. With the more even spread of talent it is even more likely that we get a A grade talent worthy of 2-6 pick in a normal draft at pick 8-16.

With Francis Jackson placing a high emphasis on drafting not only good footballers but good people, going by that article Wines fits that profile.

I think he'll go 10-15 which means we're right in the mix.

This would be a dream result. But I think it is possible. Every year, Scoop latches on to a couple of youngsters and pushes their case!!

Could Oliver follow in the footsteps of Brandon Ellis, Dyson Heppell, Luke Parker, Anthony Morabitio (give him time) Ryan Bastinac , Jackie Ziebell and the one only Chimper?

Stay tuned!!! (PS. Combine a slow Monday with a multi bye couple of weeks and this is what you get!!)

Anyone seen much of Ben Kearns from Gippy Power?

He has come out of nowhere to make the Vic Country side.

Can we start a get Ollie Wines to Tigerland campaign?

Highly unlikely Emma Q has referred to him as a potential top 3 pick. That's good enough for me to know he won't get as far as us.

Where has she said that? Personally thought he was more a 6-12 and we'd at least be some chance.

The kid has had a pretty good season bit of a sore knee at the moment!
He's definitely the type of player we are in need of though maybe a little on the short side. How's his defensive pressure? Could he play a Darling role?

Going solely on that clip looks like leysy is the only one not flattered on Wines.

Why not? Who are you leaning towards at this early stage? I am not all in on Oily yet but he looks promising.

How would people feel about drafting Troy Menzel? Younger brother of Daniel has already had a knee reco (LARS) and is currently sitting on the sidelines with what is reported what is rumored to be OP. Very skilled player, kicking is creative and he has very good goal sense.

When fit Troy has shown quite a bit more than Dan this year. Playing for the Bulldogs in SANFL he has more midfield ability than his brother and then in the Championships playing primarily as a marking forward he kicked 15 goals (9 then 6) in the first two games albeit against Div 2 teams.

So with more talent than his bro but the history of injury with him and his family do you think we should take the risk?

I rate him a top 10 talent when fit and personally I would take him with our first if available and then some "safer" options with our two 2nd rounders. Jason Pongracic and Jackson MacRae come to mind

Could have read this completely wrong Scooper as its only a clip but His kicking lacks some fluency for leysy's liking, especially for the role he'll play. With the crowding around the ball today mechanical actions that take any time to dispose can be found out.

Another thing that could be completely wrong & may well be allayed by watching him more is his handballing on his wrong side. Mightnt seem much but leysy is a stickler for it & he makes an effort to use his right every time. Dont like that.

Need to watch him more to see if leysy will stand by those first impressions.

Going by that clip, me either. Looked pretty 'vanilla'/stock standard to me. There wasn't anything wrong at all, but nothing special from those highlights either. Seemed to want to handball too much; didnt see much breaking of the lines with run & leg speed; nor any side-steps out of traffic or nice long kicking. He might be a gun but going from those highlights there didnt seem to be anything overly special about him.

GO TIGES!!!
