Cats as much as I hate them will finish top 4 again and will go close to a premiership in 2017. Will bend us over easily this year!

I hope you're wrong I hate them too.
I reckon their defence is a bit flakey this year, and our midfield is as good if not better.
Gee we owe them a few good floggings.

Geelong is very lucky not to be 1-2. They are bog average and slipping.

We would have had to trade a lot more than pick 24 to get Rockliff, and pay him way too much. A bit of cake and eat it going on here.

A lot more? Doubt it, especially considering Tom Mitchell went for pick 14. Here's a good summary of Rocky's market value.

And I think people are too quick to dismiss the Cats, I've been hoping they would take a tumble but that doesn't seem likely to eventuate. Should knock off Hawthorn next week and be 4-0.

Yet no-one wanted him.

well we should want him at the end of this season, he's a gun.

You play Supercoach - theres a reason hes priced over 600k.

I do play Supercoach but I also realise that Sam Mitchell & Jordan Lewis should have cost a lot more than they did. It was Rocky's public profile that saw his value diminish and Brisbane were very open to shunting him off to the highest bidder, problem being that there wasn't even the slightest bit of interest. A combination of money, ill timed tweets and a bad reputation is enough to lower anyone's trade value.

Would I approach him now? Absolutely, but the problem is we are already paying a bloke 400k to fill the same position. At least if we had Barlow on the books we could push him back to reserves level with mimimal fuss. We are stuck with Caddy for the next 4 years unfortunately, that means little wriggle room to upgrade the mid/HFF role.

No way mate, Rocky could have been got for about that last year. Posted last year why.

Lots seem to be asking this. Wondering if there is more at play to why Rocky is going cheap. Leysy will explain.

It's 100% purely his contract for next year combined with him being late on the market.

Unlike most players there was zero talk of him being on the market. It was only a couple of days ago he was still required at Brisbane. It was only after meeting Fagan on Wed that the Lions were open to trading him.

Clubs just havent geared there player payments with the possibility of fitting the $800K in. Lets looks at the rest of the clubs:

Widely known have next to no room:

- Port, Sydney, GWS, Geelong,

Have already committed remaining cap to other big names:

- Collingwood (thus arbitrary trade), Hawthorn, Adelaide (would have gone there before Gibbs on radar).

Rebuilding:

- Freo, Carlton, North, St Kilda.

Dont require him:

- West Coast (Priddis,Mitchell for role), Melbourne (stack of inside mids, nothing to trade anyway)

Leaves pretty much us, Gold Coast and Essendon.

Not a lot of suitors to drive trade price up given contract and late notice. The changing of coach has hamstrung the Lions ability to get market price.

Bullus' posts say it all.
Were many comments at trade time that Lions would trade Rocky for mid 20 pick.
Plenty of reports about him from Brisbane: excessive partying, mean to kids, arrogant, over-priced
Pick 25 for one of the best mids in the comp playing in one of the worst teams.

Instead we paid overs for Caddy cos Geelong said they wanted to keep him.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

For the "Bull" he's made out to be by players and media, I'm yet to see any of it. Haven't seen him back into a pack - only likes contact when he can see it coming. Needs to look at Vlas's game - and play like him.

Parfitt got the round 3 rising star nomination :(

Already contributing more than Caddy, he was about as plug and play as any rookie in the draft.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

If we'd thought this through logically we could have taken Parfitt with pick 24, picked up Barlow on minimum wages and then targeted Rockliff as a free agent. Money wise we haven't over spent but we are still making some good progress with our personnel.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Keep picks FFS. Caddy rookie list
Geelong owes up big time.
We give them Ottens and Poole, & they give us bisscombe, hunt, houlihan and caddy.
I know who not to trade with

Barlow was too old. Be lucky to get 2 seasons out of him.

Merely a place holder on minimum wages. Would offer some temporary relief whilst we scout around for a viable free agent. The problem with Caddy types is they chew up far too much cap space relative to their output. Two Caddy's will never equal one Rockliff. Unfortunately, this has been the Richmond way for as long as I can remember.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Very good work Leysy to put that link back to last year.
That thread covers it all re Rockliff.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

Tom Rockliff for a 20s pick is a no brainer. So it had the be the money that was the sticking point. And that will become the sticking point when he comes up as an RFA. We still want him.

As for Caddy, he has to lift. He is not running hard enough. He was a liability last week.

As for whether we'd prefer the pick or Caddy right now, Bully holds all the cards IMO.

Re: Welcome to Tigerland - Josh Caddy

If we got him to be a forward it'll be the worst trading since Biddiscombe! Averages .80 goals a game.
If we got him to be a mid who goes forward why isn't he spending time in the midfield?

I've just read his pre 2010 draft write up. Says he hits the packs with a burst of speed.....
