They just need to talk more. I don't have an issue with two guys wanting the footy.
If Richo's in the better position he needs to let Schulz know and vice versa.
FWIW I think both players have a lack of awareness when the other is nearby but that has plenty to do with lack of communication. If it's yours call 'Mine!'. Talk FFS.

Agree ToO. In the past I think there has been a distinct lack of talking all over the field. Not sure if its been worked on but you know when a player on their own is mowed down from behind that the cause has been a lack of talking from nearby players.

Have to say Schulz has shown some aggression of late at the ball including backing into packs. He's obviosuly putting in the extra effort which is great to see.

.... but the amount of times ive seen players ignore Jay on a great lead for Richo in a contest is disturbing....for me Jay is a better kick and possibly could be a better mark than the great man...however i think his time will only come when Richo has finished up :'(

Good to see that other people notice this too, 8ball. We have a habbit of ignoring unestablished players when they are leading (not just in the forward line). Jacko sufffered from this for years. Last year it happened a lot to Eddie.

Don't know about being a better mark than Richo though...don't think anyone in the league can claim that.

Remind me why are we comparing Richo's abilities with Schulz again?. Richo at the end of his 3rd season had already kicked 113 goals in 42 games and had already become an emigna for his athleticism and capabilities. Schulz just managed his highest possessions of 15 after 50 games. Richo had 15 possies or more 4 times in his first season.

Comparing is chalk and cheese, oranges and apples, boys and girls....

There was another occassion on Thursday where Foley? I think it was was tackled from behind despite being surrounded by team mates. Communication is imperitive and hopefully they are working on it.

I had big hopes for Shulz a few years ago like every on here, while he hasn't given us anything to cheer about so far, i've noticed an improvement and maybe he'll up being the player we hoped for.
If he can hold down chb, it frees up polak, and bowden and gives wallace more options.
It even gives us the options of running Joel and browny on the ball at different times.

Foley gets tackled from behind a lot.

It was a good effort. Encouraging. The 15 touches is also good to see. First game back there and he had the most touches ever. Just hope the body can give him a chance to string together 10 games in a row.

I actually saw him running past creating options as well. He got out a trot.

What a pleasure to see Jay getting a bit of the ball and actually looking like a footy player. This was one of the most promising aspects of Thursday's game and hope he can string a few together. A tall strong back doesn't necessary need to be a world-beater to be very useful ( a al Ben Holland in the early 2000s)

I just hope Wallace persists with Schulz in the back half and treats it as a learning year.
Not just throw it out the window the first time he gets smacked (and he probably will).
He should be willing to cop some pain in the present for the hopeful reward of a dependable CHB in the future.
Schulz needs to be persisted with until it's clear there's no development left, and I don't think we've reached that point.

Schulz in defence. Easy. This will release Bowden into the middle and Polak to roam up forward.

Schulz can play on the bigger bodies and can hit packs hard. He's also pretty reliable by foot, and his in close tackling and clearance work is OK.

Schulz showed good signs a few years ago in defence before he was hurt badly in the St'Kilda game where Hammil drove him into the ground. Terry forgot about this and never played him there again. I wonder about Terry's awareness sometimes.

You are a lot more optimistic than me Harry. I hope you are right but he still has a bloody long way to go.

Have you noticed how Richo always seems to out body him in a marking contest? Hopefully Jay will learn something from the big fella.

Could be wrong, but I think he played a handy game down back against the Cats in 2005? Campbells last game at SS.

There was a couple of moments on Thursday night where under pressure, Jay was able to weave his way out of traffic, and fire our a clever handball to a player running through.

Leave him there. Let him find his feet. Play him on some of the big boys. If he gets a lesson, thats ok, he'll learn from it.

What I do like about the backline, if Schulz is there, is that we have some different types to play on different sorts. Will, Jay, Kelvin, Graham and Joel are all suited to different types of players, which gives us some flexibility.

He also looked o.k. down back in that nab game against Scumwood all those years ago when he busted his ankle.
Maybe he just needs to be slotted in and allowed to grow into the backline, hopefully he can hold some form and just sort of gradually blend in with the boys already down there.

And since Port were a bit interested in trading for him they must have had a position in mind for Schulz, maybe to replace Wakelin as a key defender.
My only knock on him is he doesnt mark in his hands often.

Very good game from Jay today. Just about our best in a losing side.
Some thrilling tough marks, good workrate and skills. a guy who can do a job at CHB and CHF is more than handy.
Seems to still have some improvement left in him after all.

Hope his detractors were taking note. ;)

I haven't seen today's game, but I really liked his game last week and liked his performance late last year. That was the one trade I'm glad we didn't do last year.

Who was the last KPP we had who could kick well off both feet?
