It's more about being in a better position to mark.

I bet that excuse really flew around someone like lockett!

sh!te - I dont get you RFC fans, it puzzles me how much you sh!t on your own :help

Do you think Stewart Loewe was dumb enough to get in Lockett's way? Was Lockett dumb enough to get in Stewie's way? No, they worked out their spheres of influence and worked within them.

Richo is a great player - but he is not perfect. If you class balanced opinions on players as offensive you won't last long on this site.

I am not saying he is perfect, but he is not as bad as some people would have you believe. Players command their position in the marking contest, i dont class someone backing into a pack "in position" at all. Its not like richo spoils schulz leads now is it ?

As for your last comment, i came here in search of RFC fans to chat with since i now live in SA with noone i know following the tigs. Cant help it if i find alot of peoples "balanced" opinions not only disrespectful, but way off the mark. The amount of bagging of our senior players is baffling.

Mate, agree with your post. Fair enough about backing into contests, but I noticed on Sunday that many times Richo would come in from the side without any hope of taking a mark and knock *smile* out of the way who was in a good position to mark or at worst bring the ball to the ground. I think Richo is a deadset gun and champion player but sometimes it would be nice of he realised he can't take every mark in the forward 50 and can be just as effective to open up space for others and take his man (usually the best opposition defender) out of a marking contest to give another forward a chance. We would score many more goals this way. Notice how Tredrea always ensured that Polak (our best marking defender) rarely had a clear run to a marking contest in Port's forward line.

You will find a lot of merciless comments regarding our players on this site, some warranted, some way off the mark. What cannot be denied is that our senior core of players leave a lot to be desired, particularly at crunch times in matches. As much as I hate Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton, etc they all have a strong core of senior players (e.g. Hird, Lloyd, Lucas, Burns, Buckley when fit, Fevola, Stevens, etc) who can stand up at pressure points in a game and lead their respective side to victory. Unfortunately ours don't - that is why they cop the bagging they do. Anyway, cheers and hope you enjoy the site.

If you watch the game again and keep an eye on young Jack you will see that he and Richo take turns in stealing a mark of one another. Fortunately each time the mark was held and the goal kicked or both players would have looked stupid.
We really need to find a way for Richo Jack and Schulz to rotate or share the main forward posts without climbing all over one another.

Cheers buddy :) I do agree with you what you say as well. Our players need to work together and talk more (some need to listen better too :)).

Did you see Jack and Schulz take marks away from each other? No you did not. Those guys know how to stick to their own space. Richo, for all his greatness, is undisciplined.

The only way I can see it changing, would be for him not to be in the forward line. He can't help himself!

Don't remember this being an issue with Ottens in the forward line. Has Richo contracted kleptomania since then, or is our forward line coaching a shambles?

Never semed a problem when Big Benny was roaming around either, or Dutchy for that matter.

I can't see us paying him out given our financial situation, of course he could be floated as trade bait.

*smile* back at Coburg this week,
Thats the end of Jay *smile* I reckon

If this is true, another wonderful example of the Terry Wallace approach to player development. Let's trade him and use the draft pick on another 70kg flanker.

Who will he be replaced in the side with? Terry's pet Tambling?  ::)

When that actually happens please let us know.

I don't buy the blame of Richo for Jay's inability to get a kick although I do give some cred to the idea that Richo robs the small forwards.

The Sarge was okay on the weekend, better in the first half when we seemed to be using Richo as a decoy but that's a trick that won't get you through a whole game, much less a season or a career.

The Sarge will have arrived when he can fly with Richo and retain front spot. He's not good enough to that ATM. In the forward line you sometimes block but the rule is for talls to fly.

One area of Jay's game that worries me is his kicking. His field kicking, once a feature of his game, has turned to *smile* and his goal shots have gone from impeccable to Kingsley class in a season.

I don't believe in the Bermuda Triangle - don't get me started on voodoo, karma, mojo or ju-ju. His kicking hasn't fallen away by magic. He's not fit- yet again- IMO. If so that would be about his fifth consecutive injury hampered season in a row. Maybe his sixth.

We've waited long enough for him to have a fully fit season. Not just lazy, he's also a crock. Trade bait.

I'd try and draft Mojo and Ju-ju.They sound like likely types.

Just what we need, i reckon.

One year too long I'd say!

It is rare that I stick too long with players who don't show enough, but I still think that Shulz can make it. He is big enough, takes a very good mark, is usually a very good kick for a big bloke, and moves okay too. There is no reason that he can't make it, except his work ethic and what is going on in his head. I reckon at some stage it will all click for him, perhaps when he realises he is running out of time. The sort of player that you trade and they come good at another club from the wake-up call.

I agree jay!The problem we have with Schulz comes down to 2 reason's imo.

1. No cohesion whatsoever with Richo
2. Delivery into the forward line is diabolical
