Like he was with Damien Cupido. ;D
I know you've got your tongue well in your cheek jason bourne.
Cupido was a recycled reject from another club and I suppose you could say the same of Zantuck.
It's not Hird's fault that his club picked up players that already had serious flaws.
It's more the young recruits who get drafted I am referring to.
If we had a leader anywhere near the ilk of Jimmy Hird at our club it would have made an enormous difference to our team over the last 15 years.

Also ToO I noticed the other day a lot complained about the "arrogance" Dan Connors showed the other day when he pushed the ball in his opponents face,I agree unsiciplined acts can be costly but I thought good on him we need guys who think they are better then there opponents an do crack the sh!ts when beaten.

Dan is a ripper young man by the way as Missing would agree when I introduced them ;D.

We need a Chad Cornes Arrogant ,Nasty ,Classy an refuses to loose on the field but a very humble down to earth guy off it

Interesting perspective CC. I hope Connors isn't another that falls by the wayside.

Connors just needs a decent preseason TOO.

You only get the kids you draft for about four weeks before Christmas and they join in some six weeks behind. They go away for Xmas and NYE and by god if I was a 18 year old just drafted having upgraded from a KFC wage to AFL pay packet I think it would be the biggest and best NYE ever. And so they should becuase regardless of what we think they are just kids with talent bit lads none the less. They come back after Xmas and then the games start in Feb.

Imagine Connors when he gets September, October and November to prepare. That is when pre-seasons are made. Those three months. You just hope the kid has a good inner circle to get him through that prepared and keep him on the semi straight and narrow.

Connors wil be in the starting 18 by this time next year.

I hope you are right Scooper but there are absolutely no guarantees about that(see Meyer, Schulz).
Whether to be believed or not, there have been whispers already about Connors attitude.
I just hope we don't let another talented kid waste his opportunity..

Your point re the inner circle is what I am referring to.

Meyer was always a quiet young man, just played the game. Not a mean bone in his body.

Connors is a 80's footballer, can't jump out the gym but can take a hangar.

Won't win a beep test but will get out of traffic when there is no gap.

He is everything a footballer should be, he just knows the game. And he has a strut and a mouth and likes to sledge. He is a 80's footballer.

There is a difference between a lazy attitude and I know I can play attitude.

Dan has the second and I don't think his commitment to training has ever been questioned.

I like what you say Scoop. :)
I have only seen the highlight videos of this boy and I can't wait to see him play. Reminded me so much of Voss from the footage.
Despite his apparent lack of fitness at this point do you see that similarity when he plays for the Burgers?
Hopefully he becomes a gun for us.

He has a lot Simon Black/Dean Kemp to him. He is Simon Black slow.

I have only seen him a few times but he and Jack R are the 2 most pure footballers I have seen at Richmond in a long while.

I take your points about Connors, Scoop.

I was one who criticised him for shoving the ball in his opponent's face as he did. There is a difference between hardness and recklessness or foolhardiness.

Hardness is not losing your cool, hardness is knowing there's a crunch coming and still proceeding, hardness is saying better get out of my way because i am coming through. And, yes, you can be arrogant with it, too.

But to do what he did when the umpy was right there was not clever at all. That would have been a great action if there had rightly been a 50 and it resulted in a goal - especially if that lost the match.

However, I would say that about anyone. Connors is still young and might never do that again. Let's hope that he is hard as we need some hardness.

Ta Scooper.
Let's just hope they are quick enough to boot at the senior level. Big step up in terms of pace from VFL.
It will be interesting to watch their progress as many have called for the natural footballer type first and foremost ahead of the athlete....

Expecting Schulz to get a recall this week.

I watched the Rnd 5 West Coast game again yesterday where Jay kicked .4 and kicked like *smile*.
Despite not having his kicking boot on, he played really well that day and those misses definitely affected his confidence.
I still think he has plenty to offer as an alternative tall forward to Richardson and he is a genuine extra target up front.

Hopefully he can turn his season around.

Sadly at the moment it's more a question of what else is there? Would it be too unkind to call Schulz a poor man's Fevola?

Probably a bit harsh Pharace. But then again, comparisons to Fev have that "apples and oranges" feel to it, such is the current difference in class. My belief is we can afford to be more patient with *smile* and could learn something from how Petrie went against us on Sunday. North have shown the necessary patience in a CHF type and seem now to have a very valuable asset. However, I can acknowledge that Jay needs to start producing/improving very soon.

Unkind to Fevola I think Pharace

I've watched Schulz the last two times he has been on television in the reserves. He looks a little slow even for that grade of footy.
I think Wallace has sent him back to the reserves for some form and to perhaps improve his "second efforts" i.e. chasing and tackling opponents as they try to get the ball out of the forward line, and also presenting himself as a target. I think his career is in trouble as Kingsley (dare I say it it) looks a more dangerous forward when coburg go forward.

3 goals and six tackles last week.
He's making the effort.

I was his PRE pres last year and I think I've found it hard to let go.

I agree Jay is trying. He just does not seem to have the leap that he once had in his early days.
I think he had an ankle injury a while ago. Maybe this is affecting his footy.
