Jake Batchelor

I saw Batchelors game as ok couple of good things along with some poor stuff, that kick to Vlaustin simply must hit the target, end of story if doesn't hit the ground, we are a 2 on 1 coming down the wing with space...any how we can not play Batch, Grimes an Chaplin all in the same back half, we must add more speed an class there

Agree, CCT. These three playing alongside one another in the backline is ultimately a liability. Chaplain, however, has to be, in my opinion, the first to be axed.

He might be messy at times, but he's worth persevering with especially due to his athleticism which we lack badly. Rance in his early days.
Sorry Force but IMO it was evident from day dot that Rance would be a gun. When he ran into Jono Brown it was without fear. You could see the frenetic animal inside. Batch reminds me of a stoner playing amateurs. He is not going to make it. Astbury has to come in for him. Astbury is clean and poised. Perfect to compliment Alex's athletic genius.

Butchered the ball. Was McGuane like by foot.

Absolutely but what is it with so many of our players that they miss a target by 10m under no pressure? Even our 'elite' players???
What happened to the good disposal manta?
God compare our disposal skills to that of Hawthorn!!

Yep, I was moaning on the game day thread about our unforced error turnovers

Yes, our hand and foot skills are terrible.
Lack of class.
Lots of good ordinary footballers.
Need to bring in youth immediately before the year is wasted...again.

Yeah it was not a great kick from Batch, but it was Ellis' lack of awareness that turned that ball over - it was close to the worst bit of play today (can't really get excited about Ellis as others on here seem to). I actually said at half time that I thought our best were Batchelor and Rance, their attack on the ball was good. Rances' disposal and decision making was far better, but Batch did a good job all day, all IMHO of course.

Its a fair point on Ellis but as we all know Ellis is an attacking player and I think his expectation was that Batchelor could hit what was a fairly easy target, sure it was a longish kick but he was under no pressure whatsover. Ellis made the move to open the wing up for him and Vlastuin to exploit. I reckon Batch is more at fault in that passage of play. You can't play expecting your team mates not to be able to do the simple things.

Batch was in our best today. Look at guys like petterd,Ellis and cotch if sniping

Ellis was completely unaware of what was around him. All he had to do was look around and stay between the opposition and the ball, and let vlastuin grab the ball. Simple game this, but we always, always, always make it look harder than it needs to be.

He turned it over a bit, or kicked to space rather than to advantage. A couple of times his foot skills weren't just bad, but woeful. Other times he was really good. 4/10 today.

I take your point but the close checking of the Dogs today sometimes wasn't the space was the better option? On the telly though it looked like every bounce favoured the Dogs.

I agree there, played a fairly good game in comparison. If Astbury is right next week, then they'd be better off keeping Batch and dropping Grimes. Hurts me to say that, because I thought Grimes was going to be good, but I got fooled again.
