Disagree Bullarto. He did look lost for a while, probably whilst he learnt a new role.

I think he's underestimated here. Could surprise a few, and think he's gets blamed for being too slow because the team is overall. Plays taller than he is. Fringe 22 player.
I'm with you there. He had a couple of years after a promising start where some of his weaknesses were exposed. He used to want to touch the ball before actually just grabbing it, but he's erased that and he used to lose confidence very quickly and go downhill from there, there were signs last year that he's got on top of that, too. I think he's developing into a pretty handy player. I felt last year that there was a contest between he and Dea for the spot. He's well and truly won that now, to the extent that I'm not sure why Dea is still on the list and if there is actually a place for him in the senior side. The big problem with Batch I find, and here's where I disagree with you, is that for a guy his size he has problems playing tall, and he needs to be able to do that at times. He could be a handy sub too.

Batch being a fringe player is what is exciting about this season.
Walk up start in years gone by and walk up start in most teams.
Batch, Astbury & Elton are excellent insurance for our defence

Jake is a great reader of the ball. He's developed a hard edge recently.I'm hoping he can make the grade. When he plays our backline make it more physical for the opposition

I have never really rated Batch but his endeavour (as advised by many close to the club) over the off season and its quite evident with his beefed up body (2014 to current) that he has worked his backside off over summer.... He has looked very good for mine in NAB as opposed to past years..

If its a straight out Grimes vs Batch at this stage i would go with Grimes due to being quicker and more versatile, but gee i hope Batch makes it and if he continues to work this hard for the remainder of his career id back him in as he has improved out of sight in the last 12-18 months

I think Grimes was always in the lineup, but a fit Astbury probably would have relegated Batch to the VFL team. With him out I think Batchelor gets that spot.

Agree with this and with rinso.

Team appreciates batch. We look better with him and I reckon he plays his role well. Hardwick would leave him out otherwise.

I cant understand why Jake gets put into the KPD bracket he is only 3cm taller than morris and 5-6 cm shorter than Grimes
Jake has the ability to play taller than what he is and thats probably why he and grimes are seen as playing for the same position but i dont think they are and there is room for all of them.

Both Grimes & Jake Have the ability to play big/small and thats a massive advantage

Batchelor - Astbury - Morris
Houli - Rance - Grimes

Thats the backline i would like, I know we wont leave out Chaplin so it probably not going to happen unles chaplin is injured

Thought he played a few good games end of last year.

Yep his final against Port was an absolute pearler! Less than 5 possessions in 2.5qtrs before he was subbed whilst his opponent ran around doing what he liked.

Its not personal, however, he is too slow, lcan't win enough ball for a back flanker and lacks composure under pressure.............not a a senior player

Probably right there mr magic
Hopefully Jake shows us he belongs here during 2015

That's a shellacking from you, DDT. ;D (That's my take FWIW.)

Jake makes our back line stronger. Plays his role well. Heat on Chaplin now. Who goes out for astbury?

Yeah, he was clearly the reason we lost that game, fair point.

On my side of the argument he's started pretty well again this year so mud in your eye Mr Magic :)

He was woeful again so right back at ya! Have a look at his effort in the first minute when Jones kicks their first goal.

Bit harsh MM , nothing wrong with Jakes game the other night, solid effort against poor opposition , the tests will come an hopefully he can rise to compete against top 8 forward lines

Was he tagging the other night? A few times it looked like he was on one of the Carlton mids (Gibbs?) and sticking with them all the way through the middle. Wasn't at the game and TV isn't always an indication? Where did he line up, and did he stay there the whole game?
