Jake Batchelor

The frustrating thing about Jake is that he is a very good footballer. We have seen it. But the way to get back into the Richmond side is to perform in the 2nds and from the write up in the website he simply didn't do that, so he doesn't play. If he plays tall Astbury was ahead of him and if he plays small/ medium Dea is ahead of him.

My suspicion is that eventually he will be a good AFL player but I hope that is at Richmond and not somewhere else. 2014 is watershed year for him.

Agree, but there is also Astbury, Griffens, Dea, and Elton all in the same boat next season

Love it when you're being rational n logical zipper. All these blokes n Batch are def in the same boat.
They have the talent to become AFL players, they need to find the head space n physical development to take the step from young fringe player to at least solid AFL player in 2014.
Part of the reason why you can't trade or give them away is because they are hovering in footy limbo, if a couple take the step we've got a win, if they don't they become part of next years list refreshment n we move on.

Helbig is another that has shown nothing

they all need to pull their fingers out

just no urgency about all them imo, maybe being a lil harsh on dea there.

Had him penciled in for 150 games an a rock down back, now I think he has to reinvent, sadly I think Dea has got more chance

Seemed to have lost a bit of confidence this year - possibly due to increased competition for spots??

Has the potential to make it.

In the latest Hardwick interview he is talking about seeing improvement from the 'Conca' draft.

“We’re probably looking for (players from) the draft three years ago to step up ... the Reece Conca draft,” Hardwick said.

Apart from Conca, this means Helbig and Batchelor.

Well he sure doesn't mean MacDonald, Derickx, Gourdis, Jakobi, Miller & Hislop. :hihi

Not unless he,s keeping an eye on Tommy at Aberfeldie ....just in case......

I followed Jake as a junior and was pretty happy when we picked him up. Really gone backwards and i struggle to see where he is going to fit in. Unless something changes i see him struggling to stay on the list come years end.

Great intercept and goal by Batchelor, just an instinctive grab and slammed it through. Was he a forward as a junior? If he keeps that up he'll be switched to the forward line.

Batch is great at the old intercept grab. Probably his best feature as a player. He had a strange year last year, played IMO some of the best football of his career (was excellent rd 1 and in a couple of other games early on) but also put in a few abominable performances (the North game... ugh)

I'm not 100% sure where he fits in but I still really like Batch and think he has a lot to offer. Needs to work on his consistency but he has all the tools to be a great offensive backman

I'm still not convinced by him. His read of the ball is first class, no doubt. But he always looks slow and lazy and his kicking is hit and miss. Gut feel is that they will move him on after this year, unless he can find a position.

I remember his first season and was convinced we had a 150 to 200 gamer on our hands. Then he we tried him on the HFF and he seemed lost. On Friday he started showing what was on display in the first year.

Hope he makes it. I like his no fuss style of play.

You think HBF is his position Baloo? What type of players does he match up on?

Dunno. The slower types I hope :) He may come good later in the game when the limited rotations start to take their toll and the quicker players aren't as quick.

It could be that the quality we now have down back is making it hard for Batch to play his natural role. Dunno. I just like the way he goes about it.

Problem for Batch is that there aren't many of those up forward nowadays. Even the 200cm blokes are quick now!

If he is to make it, I reckon he needs to be able to mark the likes of Crameri, Monfries, Mayne...the mediumish forwards who rely on leading/marking for their goals as opposed to the nippy/flukey guys.
