Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Looked lazy and soft today. His decision making was appalling !!!

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He was uncharacteristically soft today. Just a pup but was very disappointing today. Might be nursing a niggle.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Commented to my son at one stage....hope I am wrong but he seemed to pull out of a contest today. Cant remember the quarter but it did not look good at the time..

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I put together my best 22 yesterday and found I left Batch out. No spot for him if Grimes is fit for mine. Much pefer Dea. He does make a lot of cheap disposal errors. His kicking which looked OK last year was mostly fluke I reckon.

Still a very good intercept mark and of course very young but I think most rate him higher than he deseves just ATM.

But Houli geez ,,,,,,,,,,,,,had a shocker of a first quarter and it got worse from there.

We are now 4 - 1 with Kingy in and 1 -5 with Kingy out (counting the Collingwood game as an out b'c of the first qtr injury).

Lots of drinking their own bathwater this week. I was nervous when I saw all of King, Lids and Cotch on Thursday night footy shows.

Done it a few times now, perc. Very worrying but still only a pup.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

It's not just today's game for Batchelor. He's generally quite good, but has a tendency to fumble at crucial moments. He often gets his ball back, but needs to eradicate it from his game. Providing King and Foley return I'd think about dropping him for a week and keeping O'Hanlon in for a full game, he was very good in the quarter he was given.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

And yet he went and took out himself and Dea when he should have played percentages.

Our defence really looked like it had a lot of 10 and 20 odd gamers, which of course it did.

Bang on, Lambchops. Inexperienced side. Our backline will bloom. Maybe next week.

Agree too much hype and palarvour this week this is the usual RFC response once someone sticks the key in the ignition of the Tiger bandwagon.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

true but only in his second season. He continues to show patches of good play and then lets himself down with focus, ie. last weekend when he hit a lazy handpass that resulted in a turnover and a goal to seal the win for Freo.

Big turnaround on Dea after the pasting copped for his drafting Lamby. ;D

Agree though on Batch, made some very bad blunders of late. Need to eradicate those & think he will. Its only his 2nd year.

Another who's not quite come on as hoped this season.

I thought he was quite good early but certainly not so much lately.

Perhaps the absence of Grimes has affected him also...probably having to play a slightly different role.

Yeah I think Batch will be OK, just a bit overhyped early. He is just not as clean or skilled as first thought. Lots of good qualities though, positioning, marking, staying in the contest (mostly), tackling.

On Dea, I was probably one that was very wary and doubtful based on his first season. He looked a different player though early in season 2 at the burgers and continues to improve. Some Kellawayish qualities in his defensive attributes and marking plus he has great athletcism

He should've smashed that ball at least 20 metres away from the contest. Also he's gotta bodyline the ball when it's on the ground and not worry about who's around him, 99 times out of 100 the opposition will come off second best.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

.

HE has big problems bending down for mine. IS good at intercepting opposition kicks but look casual and slow too ofter.

He isn't very agile

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Not too fussed what anyone says about this kid, as I believe he will play 200+ games for the club. Is the next Joel Bowden.
Few too many on here critisise batch and Conca, without really considering they are only in their second year of AFL.

Just remember, the kids will make mistakes - in 2 or 3 years they won't - that's when we will be ready!

I also debate he is not agile - was drafted as a rebounding defender - like I said in above post, all will come together in time. Be patient, not critical...

Agree. He was good early on and everyone was praising him calling him a gun. Calls of "Joel Bowden with a harder edge", etc.

Now he's had a few average or ordinary games he apparently hasn't come on as expected. Please...his overall performance is still vastly improved, he just isn't going to be consistent yet. Not many 2nd year kids are. As soon as he has a good game again I expect everyone will be back on the bandwagon.
