Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Just a reminder that my interview with Batch is on during the Bound For Glory show this morning from 10am! 90.7FM in Melbourne, or listen online at the SYN website. Tune in! :)

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I wonder if Batch cud ever play fwd. He takes a great contested mark and moves pretty well. I appreciate he is settled or getting settled in an improving backline but we do still have probs fwd. Worth concidering if Astbury takes a backline spot instead of fwd?????

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Na, he's a natural born HBF. I wonder if anyone would still prefer Parker? I wouldn't.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Just on Batch, I noticed last game his TOG seemed quite low. Around 68% IIRC.

Any reason for that? I'd have thought he might have been out there for the whole game, certainly more than just under 70%.

Was it a case that he got a role to play on a certain player and followed them everywhere, even to the bench? I tried to pick up on it watching a replay, but couldn't work it out.

Hope he isn't nurisng an injury.

He was subbed off. Had a slight niggle from memory.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Jake is a real find. Second year player who is playing a very mature hand at times.

He made a bad blue at one stage (I think it was the third) where he didn't hit the aerial ball hard enough. (I haven't seen him do that before.) He hit the next one like a giant.

Over all I thought he rose to the occasion.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Feel very comfortable when he has the ball in his hands or when it's coming in. Just reads the play so well and is as composed as they come. Still makes the odd error but at 19/20 years old, couldn't be happier with him.

Conca on the other hand has a me a tad worried - just a tad. Makes some crucial skill errors and isn't as damaging as he should be. Is as hard as they come and generally uses the ball well but doesn't damage the opposition with his kicking and doesn't have a penetrating enough kick IMO. Will get better I'm sure but at pick 6, probably needs to lift a cog or two.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

This is minor given his overall game - and the good far outweighs the bad.
At times though I worry about his kicking.
He seems to drop the ball from quite high and he kicks with a hooking action.
He can hit a perfect pass and a great long kick too - but then at other times he can miss a straightforward target.

Last night he also fumbled a few times - but I'm thinking that can be put down to coming back after a proppy ankle. And the TV showed him in the rooms straight after with his foot in an (ice) bucket.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Wasn't Batch's best game. Seemed not as confident in his marking either but still is going to be a fantastic player.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He said after the game that it was the quickest game he has ever played in and felt he struggled a bit after missing last week.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Was a great show of courage backing into the pack where N Riewoldt marked and goaled in the 1st qtr. Knocked the stuffing out of Rance in the process.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He looked a little proppy to me, and struggled with the ball below his knees.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Dreadful game today but I think we need to perservere with him. Will be a good player down there. He is still in the beginning of his career. I guess the same can be said for a lot of our young guys but no excuses for lack of effort for some..
