Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Took some very good defensive marks yesterday.

Between Batchelor, Morris, Rance and Grimes we arguably have the best lot of young defensive players.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Deserves more love around here for his efforts yesterday. Some of his marks deep in defense were great.

Has a fair leap on him. Just rises and rises. As soon as I see Batchelor hovering over 3rd man in to a marking contest I just smile. He's going to chop it off. Corey Enright the 2nd coming.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

The big area for Batch to work on is power through his core.

In the air he is fine floating across the pack. When the ball hits the deck he gets pushed off the ball far too easy.

Only young and a lot to work with.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I also like how he is brave (and good) enough to back himself passing into the corridor when necessary, even when there is only a small margin for error. Helps us break open the other team's zone.

Sometimes we forget how young he is because of the maturity he shows in reading the play and disposing of the ball. He is 19 or 20? Even though he is a good side, you are correct Scoop, most 19/20 y/o's need to build their core strength. Batch is no different.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

His aerial work is really coming on.

In style leysy thinks he's more Sam Fisher/Josh Gibson than Corey Enright.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Will be a defensive rock for the next 10 years. He has the game, the temperament and the body to be a finals player. Very strong overhead, kicks the ball really well and has a good mix of attack and defence.

Great recruiting.

Yep, he is excellent in turning defence into attack. Has the vision, the skill and the courage to go for that attacking risk kick through the middle.

Yep.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

He is a gem. Cool under pressure.

We have done very well there.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

he's usually the first to read the flight when it drops short. a couple of errors in a spoiling attempt and pushed off the ball for goals but overall good game.

I also notice him directing team-mates frequently, too - he's got confidence, and he's a leader.

Loving his progress, no second year blues here (so far). Takes a very solid grab, at times plays like a 193-194cm backman. Is it just me or with the left foot kicks and 11 looks like we have clined Joel Bowden.

nuh, not just you, I was thinking he is very bowden-like in a lot of ways and if we get half as many fine games out him, ill be rapt out of my brain.

He's very Bowden like but with a harder edge.
