Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I thought it looked like he spent plenty of time on the wing as well as HB. Looked to be knocking a few cobwebs out with an improved performance.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Definitely an improved performance, Batch was horrendous against the Dockers.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

After a great first season Jake seems a little slow out of the blocks this year.

I hope he doesn't have the 'second year blues'.

Not sure why he has had the added pressure of being mentioned to play onball/wing this year.
Leave him in the backline and hope he takes another step up from a very promising 2011.

Was suprisingly picked ahead of his Stingrays skipper in Parker who is currently being mentioned in dispatches.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Yeah Parker was one I wanted and was shattered when we went Batchelor who to me was a unknown quantity. In saying that from what we have seen he is going to be a very very good player, as is Parker.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Yeah I wanted Parker as well but got howled down by a few on here.

Having said that Batch will play 150+ games and should be a back line staple for the next 8-10 years.

Can’t complain about that.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Amazing where Parker slid to. Think he's a prime example of how recruiters can sometimes look too deeply into things & overlooking the obvious.

Gunna be some player.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

The year before he was touted as top 10 pick if eligible.

He is a classic case of the longer a kid is around, the more the recruiters look for the faults.

With due respect to Batch/Griffiths we should have grabbed one of Parker or Bastinac to round out the midfield.

Or Fyfe.

Not sure any one really thought Fyfe would be this good. He showed a bit in the champs but I never thought he would evolve into this type of footballer.

It happens, one does come out of the box and send up a star.

He's definitely looking the goods, another Sydney special and a player who will relish the smaller ground. If he was in this year's draft, he would have been pushing top ten and would have almost certainly been picked up by GWS.

There's no denying it, he's exactly the type we need at Richmond, let's hope that we can pick up a hardnut midfielder in this year's draft.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Lot of love for Parker here. I never saw him play as a junior so I only have the games I have seen as a guide but I would have thought that Batchelor's 2011 was at least the equal of Parker, probably superior.

What's the basis of any perceived Parker superiority as a player ? Junior form , 2012 Pre season form ?

True but kudos then to the Fremantle recruiting staff.

If he was eligible for the Rising Star, I would have him equal favourite with Caddy. His pre-season form has been outstanding, he's shaping up as a permanent fixture in Sydney's midfield and will be one of the big improvers in 2012. He's not as flashy as some, and perhaps that's why he slid down the pecking order, but one things for certain, he's a ball magnet and he's as tough as leather. With a midfield already consisting of Jack, Parker and Mitchell, Sydney are handling their generational change beautifully.

He was picked up at 20 which was where most judges had him pegged, at the time I believe most saw him as a permanent forward in the Stevie J. mould. Very few would have expected him to become a formidable onballer at such an early age, particularly given he was pencil thin as a junior.

Parker was highly rated internally at the Stingrays.
Leadership skills, attitude and consistancy etc
Tough onballer in the first draft with the new sub rule, where building onballer depth was a priority for most clubs.
Everyone knew Parker was going to be drafted withot doubt, slipping down the draft wasn't the big issue.
It was that someone who had watched enough games to rate Bachelor, who was considered more late draft pick or more a rookie chance, didn't rate Parker higher.
Were very,very suprised

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I rated Fyfe. Thought he'd last til our 3rd pick, but I wanted us to pick him badly.

His junior form is he won 8 best and fairests in a row from under 9 to under 16 in very good sides for the langwarrin football club. He also played some senior football at 16 and was bog every time he played. A bad miss fo RFC but you cant win em all and our drafting over the last couple of years has been great..
