Jake Batchelor

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I'm not a fan of moving Batchelor into the midfield even if it's only part time.

The best defenders are the ones that play most if not the whole game in defense week in week. I would rather Batchelor stay in the one position and become possibly a great defender than split his time in the midfield and remain an good defender and an okay midfielder.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Chuck him in the gut's and see what he's got.

From day 1, he looked at home.

its funny, i remember seeing him during the pre-season last feb, during a practice session. he just looked like a footballer in everything he did, not showy, not an athlete, just a good old fashioned footballer. that 'look' of a footballer continued once the season started.

as for a move to the midfield, im not sure. he could be a very important part of our backline. composed, skilled, tall enough to play on opposition talls if need be, agile enough to play on smalls. on the other hand, if he can translate his skills to the midfield we will have another big bodied, skilled smart midfielder and we can never have too many of those.

lastly, i hope people can keep their expectations in check on Jake this year. he definitely looks a good prospect, but it is worth remembering he is entering his 2nd year in the system. chances are he may struggle at times, and he may not be the star that some are hoping, yet. people may need some patience, for Batchelor, and Conca, Helbig and any other of our 1st and 2nd year players.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Agree with all the Batch love in this thread.
But, this year will be a challenging one for him.
Teams will look to exploit his lace of pace by getting his opponent to the goal square (same thing happened with Jamie Tape).
I hope he improves his game to cope with the extra attention.
We've had plenty of one year wonders over the journey!

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

If he's still around when Cotch is done with it, he's the next captain.

I watched these two running an exercise at training a few weeks back.
They were in a fast handball drill with Morris. Real close pack of three.
Criss crossing, left and right at lightning pace..

Morris kept fumbling but Batchelor kept up every inch of the way with Cotchin and that's no mean feat.
The point of all this being?

He has exceptionally clean hands. One touch player. 8-

Oh great, so Morris is another unskilled hack - just what we need.... ::)

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

agree but as he plays more games in the midfield he will just settle like he did in the back line, dont think it'll take him long H to fine tune his game as a mid.....agree with CC batch is a super tackler and bloody hard at it with skills....

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

I think Batchelor in another year or 2 will become known as mr consistent for the tiges. Week in week out just does his job. Exactly what we need. Reminds me of Newman in some ways. Not flashy just solid... but I think Batchelor could become more than solid.

agree thought he was a bit shakey and indecisive at times and didnt look comfortable where he was playing. not sure why they dont leave him on a hb flank and let him develop there, where he looked good last year??

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Thought he had an absolute mare in both games on Fri. Had a tinge of arrogance about him - perhaps he's been reading the glowing reviews on PRE a bit lately! Not the end of the world - Dimma strikes me as the type that knows how to get a head pulled back in.

You managed to type your response slap bang in the middle of my quote yet still didn't notice the punchline?

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Thought Batch and Grimes were the biggest disappointments the other night. Will get better.

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Did Single Man (that's what my mate and I call Jake!) select the No. 11 or was just assigned to him?
Couple times watching the replay of the Hawks match off the AFL site I dead set had to look twice.
I thought Joel Bowden had made a comeback. Is it me or do they look very similar?
Roughly same size, both molly-dookers, similar movements, same initials. Very weird.
Jake appears very cool under pressure like Joel and usually hits the targert as well.

Go the new JB No. 11 ! ;D

Re: Pick 30 - Jake Batchelor

Can't remember exactly where i read this and I hope I have got the story right, but JB has been copping a bit of a ribbing from the boys of late. As any good clubman would and should do he purchased a new jeep, supporting our major sponsers. Good lad.

But according to the story he couldn't get it to start and had to call roadside assist, were the problem was quickly diagnosed apparently he had it in drive and not park.

Ah i miss the old holden 202 and 186 where u could still do your own maintance, especially the 3 speed no syncro box where you had to occasionally jump out and lift the bonnet and wrestle with the linkages to get your gears back :cutelaugh ;D

Let's just hope doesn't also waste his talent by playing the majority of his career in cruise mode like Bowden did then.
