In a sense, is symptomatic of our malaise.

Played every game in 2015 and finished 12th in the b&f. Yet somewhere in the pre-season he went over the hill. At 24.

WTF is going on with our player development?

this is the head scratcher. we look spent. what is it? there has to be some kind of answer. its really obvious how unfit we seem, as obvious as how bad Batch was last night.

Last year the defence was great for sure.
But it was whole unit i.e. the sum of the individual parts that performed at a high level. For the most part that included Chaplain and Batchelor along with Rance, Houili, Grimes, Vlaustin.
Some of those individual parts are great players e.g. Rance is the stand out and could be taken out of that unit and he's a star in his own right.
But some of the individual parts are not able to play at a high level outside of the well functioning unit - and I see Batch in that category.

(Maybe I'm saying he got a bit lucky last year and looked better than he really is?)

Was a contest deep in Ports forward 50 in the 3 rd quarter , he was 3 rd man up an missed the fist altogether , doesn't ply with any of the commitment and aggression he once did, lines thru him unfortunately

I'd tell him to drop 6kg and get him to work on some burst speed off the mark(to get him somewhere near afl average).

He's playing too heavy. Shouldn't be used as a tall defender. They think he's like Joel Bowden due to his left foot and personality. Unfortunately he can't play taller than he is, when the ball moves so fast.

They're wasting him. Badly developed.

Read my above comment. Carries too much weight. Played out of position.

i think he could be played in Houli's or Vlastin's type of role. He's more aggressive (than Houli), will put his body on the line, and will agitate and annoy his direct opponent.

For me his the type we keep for too long, limited footballer, biggest worry for me is his slow an not flash one out, plus skill levels only just, his the classic tweener , very good VFL , not quite AFL

I think his skill levels are ok. Decision making can be better, but think he's underrated. Plays his role as asked, because he wants to be an AFL player. I think we could get more out of him.

Think he's slow because he bulked up to play that role. Would never be fast, but think he could be average.

Add Batchelor over Parker to Griffiths over Fyfe, Lennon over Cripps, Conca over Heppell, Lynch and Prestia, Vickery over Beams, Hannebury, Sidebottom and about 10 others, Vlastuin over Grundy.

The guy responsible is still employed. Only at the RFC!
