Jake Batchelor

This guy seemed to bulk up enough to play a key back (not saying he's big, but he had to be strong to play the role).

Does anyone else think that if he dropped some weight (he's 87kg according to the club website) down to maybe 83kg he could have enough pace to play a HBF? I think when he first came to the club, he played that type of role, which is why he got compared to Joel Bowden. He's gone all over the shop to help the club out. I think he could be useful maybe as a more mobile defender. His kicking to me is fine, it's his decision making, he tends to try be overly attacking and take risks he shouldn't.

I'd be interested to see him given a role like Vlas has been. He has more talent than it appears to me, we just aren't using it right.

Batchelor is OK but I would definitely be happy to see another player play sufficiently well that it warrants Batchelor playing mainly in the VFL team. Would like to think he could become part of the depth players, drawn upon when injuries and maybe form require some changes.

say what you will about Batch but he was part of a defensive unit that did pretty well last year. On Thursday him, Chaplin and Hunt? were missing from that unit and i thought we looked a little shambolic at the back. Thank *smile* for Rance. Vlast ok Grimes ok. I'm not saying bring these other players back but judging Thursdays effort we can do better. Its okay to experiment but keep some perspective.

I must be the only one that thought Grimes had a stinker on Thursday. His first qtr featured around 3-4 clangers (from where I sat) and as a consequence, his confidence looked shot. I remember him and Rance running the ball out of defence in past years. I'm sure he will be back.

I will not accept that Jake is not in our best defensive group until proven by stats. My gut feel and after seeing him play live tells me he is very influential on the way other players behave and play. He is better for the team than Morris and whoever the other player was in the backline last week. The rest of our players there are very similar.

You were proven right last night. He should be playing until at least we ready upgrades. At the moment we dont

This is the example of our "depth". So if Batch comes back in does he change anything? No, he,s just another battler with serious limitations as an AFL footballer.

Yep. Deck chairs

Much better than Morris or Hunt. He's a depth player who will do well under certain matchups.

He didn't look overly happy from where I stood.
Mind you he was watching our reserves get thumped by the Essendon misfits.

Yet others on here expect the likes of him, Beanie, etc to ripping it apart in a crappy VFL side. It is
becoming obvious, that even the VFL team cannot attract the better players at VFL level.

Some on here have to accept that he is in our best 22 at the moment. When someone better comes
along that can replace him on the HBF, then it's either evolve or move on.

He'll probably be Grimes' replacement. Although he, like others in the team at present, lacks composure with the ball, he can take a decent grab and will give it everything he's got, and I still think he's a better kick than Taylor 'the Butcher' Hunt.

he's a more imposing presence than Hunt - who looked like a kid out there last night

Was 11th in the b&f, surprising demotion this year. Although both he and Astbury in the back half makes us a bit stagnant.

A fat Yarran is hurting us.

Though he was pretty good last season.
Is he being punished for his game in the Elim final after the mismatch of having to play on Waite?

Will come in for Grimes and be expected to pick up Walker or Jenkins.

and thats the issue. There are certain games where Batch just won't match up well in and one of those will be Adelaide. I'd be bringing in Cahplin for Grimes this week. I actually think Batch would be a good matchup against West Coast though playing on La Cras.
