Jake Batchelor

Sorry not a fan of the single man. Sloppy player.

agree. Had a decent run of form there for a while but has fallen back to the level that saw him out of the side for most of a season. Good depth player.

We will bleed goals to Carlton tonight because Jake is in the stands. Bad call Tiges. Remember the start to last season when everyone thought it was because Lids wasn't playing. Well here is some news. It was because of Jake not playing. Must be a late inclusion.

I was putting this in the vlas thread then realised my mistake, i need to promote jake not vlas.
Too many of the same type of players in the back line yesterday. Not one of them is defensively aggressive as my man j Batchelor. Jake does make vlas a better defender, he makes grimes a better defender and allows rance to roam as he loves to without worrying about his other backmen. When houli runs and misses a target batch is the one who looks after the second opponent. He is underated IMO. Jake does defense better than most in our mob. He would free vlas up to running the half back and tie down 2 players allowing others to think more aggressive offensive thoughts. His main let down is that he is asked to play on big opponents, Astbury and chaplin sized dudes.

Can't see Batch getting a game with all of Rance, Astbury, Grimes in. And I'd have those 3 in ahead of Batch generally speaking. But there may be times where he may matchup better against certain opponents. This is where you want to be as a club, with depth.

Batch is the type we need to upgrade on. Someone more attacking or better defensively or better skilled.

Cannot understand the Batch bashing.

Last year we had a stable back 6, which included Rance, Chaplain, Grimes, AND Batchelor. The defense was
top 3 if I recall correctly. It would be nice to have 6 Rances in defense, but that cannot happen. Until someone
better comes along, Batchelor should be in the team. He provides a little mongrel and hardness, which we clearly
lacked last night.

Agree

I would be happy to see batch back next week. Plays the occasional howler but generally was very good last year

Batch had a decent year last year. When he comes in if he shows the same form I will be happy enough with that. What I don't understand is how poor he is at VFL football. He should be showing he is a class above.

Not at all surprised to see him missing from round 1.

He has been replaced as the worst person you want disposing of the ball in our backline by Astbury - both are simply not up to AFL standard.

Ahhh this is music to my ears. Untamed tiger at least there are 2 of us. Come on dimma restore the natural order.

He is way ahead of Morris. I guess it will come down to match ups. With grigg and possibly Lids returning next week and Morris the obvious out it will just depend on who else they put out. I think Macintosh will be lucky to keep his spot. who else goes out to make room for batch I'm not sure?

Astbury has replaced Chaplin. Batch has been replaced by who on HBF?

BEllis - Not his natural spot, does not provide hardness and a physical presence. Even so, much prefer him on the wing.
KMac - Same as BEllis. He may yet develop and take on this role, but he is not yet ready.

Anyone else in the VFL team? People always remember his bad games, which are not as many as people believe. Last
years EF, he was not very good, but he was not alone. That day, our midfield got smashed (pretty much like it did the
other night), yet, people are prepared to cut others some slack, yet they hammer him. IMO, Batchelor complements the
others in the defensive 6. Until someone better comes along, he is still our best option - my reference is how our defense
performed last year or two.

My thoughts on Astbury. I thought he did OK. Lacked poise and on field leadership that Chaplin provides. I believe,
given a good run and stays healthy, these are qualities he possesses and will hopefully surface.
