Watch the game again. A lot of poor decision-making by Batch last night. And only 50% disposal efficiency.

If we're talkin stats, then yeah 50% aint great. However, as a comparison, Lennon had 2 more disposals at 56% and he had a ripper apparantly. Edwards at 52%. Stats dont tell the whole story and Defenders get marked more harshly. How many goals did Joe Daniher kick?

He simply wasn't that bad, and hasn't been for most of the year.

I suggest you watch the game again. If you then still believe Lennon's quality of game was similar to Batch's then so be it. And no backs are not marked more harshly on DE%. Forwards typically are more disadvantaged by DE% because it counts against them when they miss goals, its more difficult to pinpoint targets into the forward 50 (as opposed to hitting players with no opponents from the defensive 50) and also they don't get as many of those free backwards kicks under no pressure in the backline. As for Edwards, inside midfielders who get a lot of contested ball (he had 14) will typically get a lower DE. However I did mention that I thought Edwards could have been cleaner last night.

I'm a fan of Batch but he did struggle with his disposal last night and that equates to a poor night in my book. It wasn't a good night for the tall forwards but Daniher did get 14 disposals and 8 marks with a much beter disposal efficiency so a little bit of a strecth to argue that Batch had a good game because Daniher kicked no goals.

Just to add, Daniher had his 2nd most disposals for the season, most marks, most inside 50s by double, and hasnt scored a goal for his last 3 games. Simply, he is just a very young player who is very inconsistent and has a lot to learn still. Batch was beaten on the night by an l-plater, hard to argue otherwise imo. That's no reflection on hi season, I think he's been great.

Just an off night has been his best season in a very good defensive unit.

Wait until Waite tears him a new one next week. could cost us a home final.

Keeping an opponent goalless is a decent night in my book. And being as wet and miserable as it was, it was not the night for great dispsal.

Also, I didnt say that Batch's game was better then lennons, Lennon played a very good game and was a standout in the first half. Neither did I say that bakmen get marked more harshly on DE%, just marked harshly in general, usually because they are less skillful players. But I don't recall many glaring howlers . You quoted the stat on DE% though, so it just shows that stats dont tell the whole story. Maybe you are just remembering the particularly bad errors, as they stand out more, as oppose to the good things he did.

I was there, and I am also a fan of Batch too (love an underrated defender!), and I do watch him closely during the game. I'll probably watch the replay tonight and see how it goes, but my eye test gave him a pass.

That hack out of mid air to " Maradona McIntosh " would count as an effective disposal I assume ? Got missed in the hype over Macca's work

That play was freakish. Did anyone check whether that was the most kicks off the ground leading to a goal ever?

Pretty sure a bloke called Diego Maradonna did that at least a couple of times :)

Well, he did get a hand to one of his goals (by accident) as I remember, so he didn't do it all by foot...

Batchelor gets to rag doll Lindsey thomas about 8 times this week.

Yeh but Lindsey will run around him while Batchelor is left flat footed and looking foolish at least 6 times also

I'd imagine Grimes would probably go to him.

Batchelor may get Waite.

I've been watching his show on Ten all week, when does Jake rock up and pick out a bird?

Well done again Jake.
At season start I didn't think he was capable of playing the part he has as a reliable member of a very good backline unit.
It's been good watching the whole lot of them working so well together.
