Jacob Townsend

It will be an interesting year from Townsend. Came from nowhere and dazzled us at the right time of year but with a full fit squad, does he get a gig? Can we have Caddy, Graham and Townsend in the same team?

We did in the finals series. Why not continue it?

x2. worked pretty good last time ;D

Graham will never plays 2's again; Caddy is a bullock; Towner is a blunt instrument who kicks goals and peddles fear

There is no way you could win a final series by an average 8 goals with that lot in the side...

Is there a better set shot at goal than Townsend? His technique is perfect.

That's why he is a keeper. He dosent need 10 touches a Game. 5 kicks will get you 5 goals

Towner showed again in the practice match that he is a more orthodox tall than either Vickery or Griffens. Stood in front. Drew two. Took the punishment. This frees Jack to float.

The improvement was that Towner arched the back a couple of times. He can do it at VFL level but not at AFL because the opponents are quicker. He did it yesterday. We've been working on his speed/explosive. Improvement.

So true - with Jack also floating over the top at times. Was surprised how few touches Towner had as he was standing in front / crashed in a lot of packs. He dropped a few he might have taken also. Thought he played well.

Agreed. He has to play a very difficult brand of football and play a lot taller than he is. Needs to be bloody perfect to impact well. If he starts holding those pack marks then his position is assured - we can assume he will convert from the set shot unlike a few others. Like Jakey King the frees/goals he collects from the opposition going the square up are always a statistical comfort.

The strange thing is that we all probably consider Townsend 'too small' to be that legitimate 2nd tall kpf as he is only 187cm and 90 kgs
dermie was 186cm & 93 kgs

Mongrel and strength is more important than an extra 5cm in reach in such a random and inaccurate game like AFL.

It isn’t a game of cms like many think.

A kick is in the air for 5 seconds and covers 50+m. 5cm can be adjusted for in that time.

def improvement. He was castagne-close to a couple of ripper pack grabs.

I love towner. I love what he brings, which is essentially fear, pain, and goals.
