Jack Ross

This thread reminds me of the Dan Jackson thread. Dan was a warrior and played his role well. Even after coming second, and then winning a JD medal, the haters just refused to open their eyes because they were so invested in Jackson being a waste of space.

He definately could have played a role as 23 rd man in our great sides,
But i cant see him adding much while we are ordinary.
You’re discounting the games he played in our most dominant 2019 side. He was very good and worthy of the 22. Agreed we haven’t seen him perform at that level since returning. But I’d persevere some more before inking the trade with Horsham as others have suggested. We need him to get back to his best.

No idea, buuut he just might be feeling the coaching staff believe in him... perhaps a bit more than he felt earlier in the season.
They just dropped him.! And dropped him earlier in the year after 23 possessions and in the best players.
He is doing it despite that..

Shorty was doubted for a long time too (misjudged by some of the same who currently don't rate Ross).

Even post the JD medal in a premiership year, he still gets looked at as one of the first to blame our trade when we're struggling.

To do both of the things you've highlighted here is much easier said than done.

We're talking Lambert, not Kmac.
I admire your support for Ross and I'm not a h8er, but you're doing those premiership players a disservice.

KMac's been running fat side box to box for 150 games. When Ross bursts through stoppages at pace, handles like a genius at lawn height and regularly kicks clutch goals we can compare him to Lambo. He has 11 goals in 56 games, just has to kick 67 in his next 79 to match Lambo on that measure.

I've said it before, but Lambo was playing for northern knights at Ross' age.

So he's ahead right now.

To be clear, he's nowhere near a 2017 Lambert right now. And he will have done exceptionally well to get to even 80% of what Lambo was.

But he's becoming a goal kicking, transition mid who runs both ways, defends, attacks and is clean in the contest.

His link work late in the game really reminded me of how we played from phone booth to open space so well in the glory days.

Was our best player in the first half last night when most of the team was abysmal; he was one of very few that could hit a target. Two very nice goals as well. IMO our 3rd best player for the game overall; only scintillating second halves from Bolton and Dusty surpassed him.

He's no star but that was a very good game.

There was a sequence in the last quarter in the backline on the boundary Warnie stand side. It was really smart play with clean disposal and nice run.

Very encouraging game from JR , I don’t expect him to kick 2 goals every week , however that’s the standard he must play to at a minimum, again I’m not talking 7th to 14th teams , I’m talking a Premiership team . 2 things I always ask from an improving midfielder especially wingman, did their opponent put any time into them ? and how much impact did their opponent have ?

Well done Jack , hopefully you can have a smorgasbord against the Eagles

Yeah guilty of misjudging shorty.

I have a much better record at positivity

Bodes well for Jross.

I've decided it's much easier to back our blokes and be wrong, than the other way around.

I think somewhere in 2013 I said something like 'We won't win a flag with Houli running it out of our backline'.

Oh dear.

You realise elite,

Means 90th percentile?

Jross would be in the 2nds at Gold Coast.

Hes about as good as rory atkins, or jack bowes, or brayden fiorini

Who find themselves in the firsts as well

Youve all gone barking mad

Ok darksider

Buried Papley in a tackle which is a massive plus for mine.

I'm a Ross fan too, but don't agree that he's been treated terribly. On the contrary, I think the time spent in the VFL, especially this year where he has been clearly a level above, has been the making of him.

If there's something I've criticised Ross for over the journey, it's been his tendency to play conservative when he gets called up to AFL level. It's what players do when they don't feel like they belong - they try to minimise mistakes rather than maximise impact. I'm not a subscriber to the idea that a guaranteed block of games in the 1's is the answer to this. Self-belief is not something that be switched on and off so quickly, it's something that builds over time through round after round of positive reinforcement.

And I reckon the time in the VFL has given Ross that opportunity to build that core of self belief. When he walks out onto the ground in the 2's, you can see in his body language that he believes that he's the best player on the park. And it translates to the way he plays - more and more he's been downright audacious in his attack on and use of the ball. Positive reinforcement. The more he does it, the more it becomes part of his DNA, the more it's part of his game when he gets called up to the seniors. It's not something he has to think about anymore, it's just the way he plays.

Is he the complete player yet? No. But he's young. And the flaws in his game are being addressed. He's starting to believe.

I've got a bit of a Lablett feeling about him.

:clap2

Just watched the tape

Stood under the ball, showed guts, linked well.

I love the love

But I don’t think he’ll play in our next finals win.

Too limited.

I just can’t see any other player on our list playing like he did on Thursday night receiving the level of negativity that Jack has.
I don’t know if he will ever play in a premiership. I also don’t know if Gibcus or Taranto will, but I’m very confident that this year he has sat comfortably in our best 22 and deserves our support.
