Jack Ross

Dimma has gone on record saying that Grigg was in the top echelon in the league for football I.Q.
Ross is a lot of things. But Shaun Grigg he is not
Ross, even during his oakleigh chargers and Caulfield Grammar days was more of a keep it simple type of player. By that I mean he would always look for option in space but if it was only a 50/50 he would go the safer option of long down the line to the big KPP then push hard to that contest. And if it was between gaining territory and mucking around with it with short multiple handballs he would go long.

I thought he kept us going and was part of the resurgence with some good link play. I was also impressed with the leadership/team play; first to pat someone on the back and giving motivation. We're really missing that out there atm.
I remember an interview when he was drafted, where he said his ambition was to “captain this team”. I was pleased with his ambition, and the fact he had immediately committed to us.

I’ve since been very impressed with his positivity, steadiness and resilience; he seems to accept whatever role he’s given, and the demotions to the VFL, and put in 100% pretty well always. He deserves to make it; could become a solid citizen and yes, even a captain for us.

Well said mate.
I like your characterisation..positivity, steadiness and resilience. That sums him up to a T. I believe those attributes are looked upon favourably by the MC. He takes every setback on the chin and goes back and works hard.

Every team needs its share of foot soldiers as well as a sprinkling of stars.

I liked that too.

Watched the replay this arvo, Rossy didn't do much wrong yesterday, was bloody efficient with the pill stood through a few tackles n kept his arms free while still feeding good ball out to team mates which set up a few goals.
Not much in the way of flash n fancy, just plenty of solid honest team footy. Done well n easily plays again next week.

Reading some of these latest comments and I agree with most of them as Ross did more than OK yesterday and at times impressive with his workrate. It is strange that reading the game day posting you would think him delist material which, in my opinion he is not

Two games away from 50 and I still don’t know if he’s going to make it.

But I think I’ll know by 60. Was good yesterday but I still don’t know.

Grigg is the perfect prototype for Ross.

Maybe a little more inside potential.
Yes Ross could learn a lot from Griggles but remember that he also had plenty of detractors on here over the years.
Helicopter kicks, no right foot, slow.
There were a couple of things about him that made him a more than handy player.
One was that he worked incredibly hard on the field which meant he was at contest after contest quite often as the outlet player.
The other was that he kept it simple by playing within his limitations. For example for an average kick he became a really good kick for goal, by working hard at it I assume.
And yes he had a great footy IQ

Simple equation for the coaches, just keep playing the kid.
If he's got what it takes he'll play pretty much every game for the rest of the year n then with ongoing maturity and development he'll play more than a 100 games for us.
I'f he's no good it won't take long for his form to taper off and start spudding things up which means he'll get dropped and moved on at seasons end.

Needs to be given some proper match selection consistency and his footy ability will decide his fate for him, poor bugger has always been used to fill temp holes then left out of the side for premiership heroes returning or used as a sub.

some good reading here about Jack and it's well deserved

seems a humble bloke and that's a good quality
played a solid game and moved with a smooth assertion in traffic
22 possessions, 400m gained, 5 marks is nice work

yeah, gameday thread is all about angst and knee jerk reactions - which is fine, totally get that. i rarely venture into them unless i want a good laugh.

Good assessment, he shows signs, but can be unconvincing. Then again, maybe he's just not very noticeable. I noticed him a few times yesterday but then the stats indicate more influence. Flies under the radar a bit.

‘smooth assertion’ - what a fine and fitting description. May there be more of it.

It’s been a tough gig for Jack to break into a midfield that’s had Cotchin, Dusty, Prestia and to a lesser extent Short, Lambert and Shai then Taranto and Hopper ahead of him. He’s never going to be an AA midfielder or anything like that but if he ever gets an decent run as a mid (and not a wing or anywhere else) he,ll be a very serviceable player. But I reckon with Trent coming back in this week that relegates Jack back a spot in the queue.
