The first time they knew they're getting up there is when they win a medal. Both finished equal 5th so no certainty they were getting up at all.
Last thing they're thinking of is having a well prepared speech. As I said a very different situation.
Bottom line though Barrass is clearly a very good confident, public speaker. Not everyone is.

They were both very good chances of finishing in and around the top 5.
You don't have to be polished, but it means having some notes and points ready to speak in front of many many hundred people at the event plus the thousands of times it will be played on the website. Not to mention the media run it got today.
It is about respecting the club, teammates (and supporters) that have given you a big lift-up in life in your final club event.
Barrass gets it. Liam and lesser extent Shai didn't.
Poor all round and shows our club and departing players in a poor light in comparison to say a West Coast.
