Ivan Soldo

While he turned it on in the last - including one where he virtually fell over and got donked - I thought he was just fair in the first 3 quarters. Haven't watched the replay but he is still a big doofus by ruckman doofus standards.

If we do go with Chol to partner the big guy going forward then we have to drop the Choldo tag as it’s not paying Ivan the respect he deserves. I suggest we give Solol a try.

Funnily enough, Choldo autocorrects to Coldplay.

I worked with Phil in the early '80s. His nickname - with his aboriginal colleagues - was Flagon, which was part of the reason his career did not quite hit the heights.
I heard, read somewhere that was the nickname Whacko Jacko tried to give him at Richmond. Seriously pissed of Phil and the rest of the players, About Jacko's standard in those days.

We are at a stage where we dont even need nakas back.
Soldo's ruck work is unbelievable considering he picked up the game 5 years ago.
Whoever is teaching him needs a pay rise

Wow you're right on the money again zipman.
Congrats for having predicted this months ago and never ever having bagged the bejeezus out of him.

we need both. Nank is aggressive towards the ball and can mark and can be isolated in the forward. Ivan can be good around the ground.

Honestly surprising how positive an impact on the team Soldo is making in the last few weeks. Chol and Balta haven't done enough to keep Nank out. Pity that the first time we would look at a Soldo/Nank combo will be in a final. Nank doesn't do badly roving a goal or two either.

McEvoy killed Darling/Kennedy. Not sure Soldo/Nank can manage that role.

Phil was very talented. Strong, powerful, great in the air, good off either foot. Good bloke, too. A real leader in the Aboriginal community back in Mildura, which ain't easy as it's a pretty racist place.

Racist place? Seriously mate you need to be careful with that type of talk. I have helped quite a few Aboriginal people who were too scared to go to MDAS to get help. There are good and bad people - colour of skin does not matter.

No, I don't need to be careful. I lived there. I dealt with people. I worked with people. Of course not all people are racist. But Mildura is a racist place. Australia is a racist place. Not all Australians. Not all Mildurians. But more Mildurians than Northcotians, I'll give you the tip.

Soldo played a terrific last quarter.

I reckon he forgot he was a ruckman a few times.

I just wish he could compete or even take a few marks as there were times in the third quarter near where i was seated where he just failed to compete, punch the ball away, mark, just seemed to get out positioned in the air.

But some of his taps that first half were unbelievable.

Stays in for mine as numero uno ruckman.
