Ivan Soldo

To think how far Soldo has come since the bye. Gets better each week so it shows what confidence does to a man
Yep. Huge advantage. I was the worst critic on him and now I'm eating my *smile*. Still has some parts to improve but that'll come with experience.

Stefan Martin is a very good ruckman. Soldo beat him and gave our onballers some great opportunities.
I agree! The thing about Nank and Ivan is their different ruck play. That's what we need. Ivan is improving each week and Nank can only get better in fitness. We need to stick with this combination.

Same. His improvement is amazing, the No.1 ruck role is his to lose. If he starts clunking a few more marks look out.

He’s now our number 1 ruckman. But I think we can play both him and Nank; reckon it gives us an advantage.

Taken massive steps since Nank went down n he got a serious run at playing seniors. Still not what anyone would call a mobile, or overly skilled footballer, but he understands n plays within his limitations. Simply competes as hard n honestly as he possibly can n by doing so makes it easier for our mids around him.

Importantly our major rivals have very good rucks that can influence the game , Ivy has proven to be able to negate that influence which is a massive win . Nank was limited to a fair degree up against the top shelf rucks

After the battering salty got over his performance this week, watch him play all 5 of his ruckmen for the rest of their finals campaign.

Quite simply, Ivan has made us a better side.

Agree - we look more dangerous now with him in the team.

It took awhile but we have responded to the 666 rule and made it work for us.

To hold our own at the centre clearances is un tiger like and gives us another avenue to attack and the two rucks will helps compete against the eagles (who play 2) and the pies (as Grundy won’t take every centre stoppage).

Winning our share of centre clearances now also bring in our twin forward setup and makes them look more dangerous.

We have evolved since 2017 and look a much more potent side with our experience and structure.

Looking at the hitouts from last weekend you can plainly see the we were the most balanced Ruck department with Soldo 25 and Nank 24.

Geelong have a fairly even spread too - Blicavs 14 and Ratugolea 10.

Eagles are very obviously NicNat centric - NicNat 24 and Hickey 13.

But Collingwood and GWS are basically just a one man band with Grundy 47 and Mumford 35.

There were parts of last weeks game that I expected more from in the Ruck especially their scoreboard pressure but then I noticed they were mainly used to fill the hole down back instead of providing an extra marking presence in the forward line.

Makes complete sense when you have a forward line that already has 2 marking talls or even when it morphs into a one on one Dustymare!

Soldo's rise is astounding and gets my Most Improved vote this year.

Nank has pulled up very well and looks to have covered his injury. He'll be much better for the run and the extra week recovery will prime him well to come out firing in the Prelim.

So maybe its time for us to capitalise on our new Ruck duo.

Should we finally go down the path of adding an extra clearance player like Ross and/or god forgive me... Pickett? ;)

It would mean a little sacrificing of our much loved outside run but it would maximise our first use around the ground and ultimately fix a vital KPI hole in our game. Clearances!!!

TBH, I dont think we would lose anything! you know who I'm talking about right....

Our game is already successful even without clearance domination but now that we have what looks to be a formidale rucking doublet, adding Clearances to our game would surely boost our chances even further.

The big question is, will we make that leap now in the scary depths of September?

The question of adding another midfielder is one that i've been asking myself.
If Dusty is to play forward more in the remaining finals, then it is worth serious thought.
