Ivan Soldo

Yeah, I went to that game I reckon, went to most home games between 81-83. I thought Phil Egan was another talented player who never quite reached the heights he could have. Probably because we were ****.
Phil was very talented. Strong, powerful, great in the air, good off either foot. Good bloke, too. A real leader in the Aboriginal community back in Mildura, which ain't easy as it's a pretty racist place.

Mark Lee barely took a mark his whole career.

Clearly not true. Averaged close to 5 marks a game at his peak over around a 5 year period. Soldo averages under 2 and is certainly an area he can improve.
He was so good at ground level though, great to watch his improvement in that area.

Rancey's new kids book is called

'Dustin Soldo's September Dream'

its written in Croation

Borderline impossible to drop him.

If Nank comes back in, they play together.

We are at a stage where we dont even need nakas back.
Soldo's ruck work is unbelievable considering he picked up the game 5 years ago.
Whoever is teaching him needs a pay rise

Did i imagine it but did he try to header the ball in a ruck contest?

I worked with Phil in the early '80s. His nickname - with his aboriginal colleagues - was Flagon, which was part of the reason his career did not quite hit the heights.

I think I have come around to agree with the Nank/Soldo combo. Previously preferred Balta or Chol with Nank or Ivan, believing we need greater speed, mobility and extra marking power around the ground, especially up forward. But Soldo has improved so much and probably these two would give us the most competitive combo. Not dismissing Balta or Chol altogether though, horses for courses.
One way you can tell that Soldo is really starting to bother the opposition is by how now they are holding on to him continually in the contests; both Hickey and Martin took him home for dinner they were so attached. But dumps mostly just ignored.

Agree with most of the posts.
For me it's Soldo, Nank, Simon Phoenix, Cujo, and Balta last.
Soldo is our no.1 ruckman at least until Nank gets fully fit.
You just know now what you are going to get with Ivan's cousin Ivan.
Solid competitive effort..
Can't ask for more.

Is proving me wrong. Is a warhorse just like Nank and cousin Ivan. Loved how he dropped to his knees to win a ground ball and free kick. Improving and learning all the time.

And unlike Nanks, wins or halves tap outs.
This is an area that makes Nanks vulnerable against bigger opponents.
Ivan will not be pushed around and the confidence he’s getting must be doing wonders. Looks like he believes he belongs
