Yes he sure is, Jack. A lot of fans on PRE want to write him off and don't rate him. But I saw the intraclub (1st half) and believe he is improving too - in all respects.

Have his critics noticed how big some of the oppo rucks really are e.g. the 'Dees' with Gawn at about 208 cm. They just picked up Preuss at 206 cm from Norf (really puzzling decision by lolNorf here IMO). All these guys with any maturity are, of course, well over 100 kg. It's a big ask for Nank to continually match up with these giants alone at 199 cm.

And if a team like the Dees play both, same for several other sides with two or more giants such as Pies and Cats et al, to take advantage of the new ruck and other rule changes, it could be a tactical error.

Soldo is a true giant who can match up on these guys when ready. As you state - still only 22. He's getting close ... and not getting any smaller.

Classic.
You've just totally supported my argument whilst attacking it on the Balta thread.
You're confused

I've got high hopes for Ivan, he's only been playing the game for 4 years. He's a good mark has got an ok leap on him which is a bonus for a big guy.
I thought he more than held his own against Witts from the Gold Coast last year, who had the third most hit outs for the season.
I think he is tracking nicely but I am not really in favour of playing him with nankervis . 2 genuine ruckman can help for sure but you also lose run and rotations through the midfield. One has to be balanced against the other.

It will be interesting to see how we set up this year. The Eagles won the flag with 2 ruckmen, Lycett and Vardy and 2 talls in Kennedy and Darling.
If Balta is ready i'd like to see him Nank given first dibs.

Ivan has really come along with his agility, see he has been named as first rover.

That’s why they were calling him Flea at training. :hihi

Nah. You're the one easily confused. I think we will try Nank with Balta if the club thinks he is ready and up for AFL. He is still very young and yet to debut. That's why he will play JLT and they have eyes on him.

Soldo, however, is Nank's understudy and reserve. He has the size Nank lacks but mobility and agility are the weak points they want him to work on. And he might be succeeding, but a long way to go yet. Also quite young for a huge ruckman. However, they will, I hope, give him a few games this year: to rest Nank when he needs it; to give Soldo more experience, and for certain match-ups e.g. huge rucks in certain games like if the Moggies played Smith and not Stanley.

In that case it would be Soldo and Balta. Really doubt we will consider playing Soldo and Nank - just too slow and unwieldy for our game-style. But it's all depends on whether Balta can step up yet.

There, hope that's cleared up your confusion.

Unfortunately you're not going to somehow make a mobile and agile ruckman out of a lumberjack no matter how much you work on it. Just can't picture a circumstance where Soldo becomes a first ruckman. Backup only to minimise damage should Nanks get injured or need a rest. I can only see CCJ as a future ruckman on our list but he's not ready for that.

The truth about soldo is ... a few years ago he played his first game.
all he had going for him is his giant dimensions.
The kid has improved every year and if Nankervis or Riewoldt gets an injury then soldo gets his chance.

Edit: Balta storms into the conversation.

I thought he had no chance but if a American can learn the game in 3 years, what’s to say that Soldo can too.

He's got better every year, and is still young. Rucks come into their best 25+ (normally) If the new rules suck for big slow men, then he's in trouble - we really dont know what its going to look like in the season proper.

A lot of vision i have seen from Soldo this pre season has him playing foward and kicking goals
maybe something in this

Big day today for Ivan Soldo , He will be up against a player in a very similar position to himself and a similar type of player both being giants which are similar height and weight
and have played against each other 4 times in the last 2 years and know each others style.

Today is a very important game for Soldo to show he has what it takes to become an AFL player

Might be a like most other ruckman.
Have to wait till he’s 25 before we see him hit his best
