Good coaches corner segment of the club website highlighting Ivvy Jnr's game.
I barely noticed him out there. That's a very good thing. He slipped right in.
Very solid game from Soldo. Improvement continues..

I’ve been saying we could support jack with nank and have soldo ruck but I guess our record speaks for itself.

Watching Ivan2 last night there’s little doubt his improved dramatically over his 4 years in the system, however I started to have hopes he could be a decent back ups back up, however last night it looks like his never going to have the footy nous to make it at the top level, besides the fact his an old school lumbering dinosaur

I bought up Preuss a couple of months back and if not him I think we need to ad a ready to go Ruck, doubt will find one who will push Nank out , however it would be a good problem to have. CCJ has been impressive as any young ruck in the junior year since Ottens, however with his light frame I wouldn’t like to see him thrown against the big boys just yet.

Yep. Stop wasting time turning an apple into an orange. Delist and recruit properly experienced aussie rules players.

Not his best game.
Didn’t jump much so maybe carrying an injury

Didn’t need to jump he dwarfed there Rucks, some blame has to go to our mids, however kept just dropping the ball at his feet and more times then not Marcon was there, a little footy nous and I reckon he would have smashed a couple forward into space for our boys to run on too

Was really surprised our coaches didn't instruct him to leap and smash it forward to clear congestion ( which we were losing badly ) The wrestling neutralised his advantage and more often than not he ended up on his a#s. Strange lack of instruction as it simply was not working.

Exactly he was winning easily need to be like Gawn and get it away from the ruck feet.

Yes soldo’s performance was bewildering. He was head and shoulders taller than their rucks, but was looking for contact and then couldn’t hold position. Not sure if it was coaching instructions or lack of nous. We got nothing from the ruck as a result.

Agree with other posters .. not sure why he wasn’t trying to bash it clear. Hope it’s. learning opportunity.

CCJ seemed to ruck more in the 2nd half ... but was ineffective on the day.

Poor coaching but our staff and ruck coach.

Needed to try something different and clear congestion. Willy like it contested.

Plus hitting the ball to the oppositions feet doesn’t help.
Nunmber of times he was held in duck contests, falling to ground I lost count.

He was hopeless last night.

Never thought he would make it anyway.

Time to recruit a new ruck.

Ivan was dreadful, but you cant throw out 4 years of development with one crap game.

It was a seriously crap game, but definitely persist.

was good against GC, who williamstown would beat I reckon.

Gawn and Grundy are the new age type of ruckmen. Soldo is from a past era. I think if we're being honest we'd have to say that the only reason he's still on our list is because we've ignored our ruck stocks for a long time. Sure at a pinch he could cover Nankervis when injured but as our primary ruckman it would be a disaster. We need to look elsewhere imo.

Rucks in general have very little impact on AFL games anyway.

We don’t need a good ruck, and I’d go as far to say it’s counterproductive to waste resources unearthing one (and then paying him accordingly)

If you find a ruck who isn’t clearly losing to his direct opponent, you’re golden. Nil all draw. Better chance of winning the ruck position by conceding hit outs and playing extra midfielders than you are if winning the ruck position by unearthing a genuinely influential ruck like Gawn or Grundy (and even then, they’re only great “for a ruck” and nowhere near the stratosphere of influence as a Dusty or Buddy)

That seems to be the reality of the least influential position on the ground, which is why we can afford to persist with a cheap one with a big body like Soldo.

Played seniors and held his own last season and against Witts this year. One bad game and write him off.

Preuss is not much better than Soldo. Did not play a senior game thus this year.

Disagree jb, I think Preuss has got a hell of a lot more talent, his big aggressive , can take a grab and he played some decent AFL footy last year, most likely would have played a lot of footy if Goldstein hadn’t have found form again, there’s better options out there but not for the price

Trouble with Preuss is that he wants to be first ruck n he's currently no better than mediocre, so why bother trading someone out or offering shekels to get him? If we want a back up to Nank, grab one from the State league comps cheaply, if we want better than Nank's all round input then we might be pushing the proverbial uphill with a pointy stick. Nank's going fairly bloody well overall.
