Soldos biggest weakness is that he has no idea how to spoil while helping out in defense.

Need truck and Leppa to train him hard this week on this.

If he can improve this part of his game, it will make a big difference

Yep, so true.

he aint gunna learn that in a week though Niko.

Soldo actually beat up Martin a few times, he's a big lad with plenty of leap.

The downside is his lack of football means he has no sense for contested marking, all at sea at times. He has had radical improvement though, worth playing a bit more if only to take the pressure off Nank

Geez he's a fair lumberer the big Soldo. Fairly handy ruck work in the first half n most importantly he not only gave Nank a chop out from having to ruck all game, it also meant Nank could stand CHF at times n give us a better forward structure.
Got a loooonnnng way to go has big Soldo, but until we get a proper CHF / part time ruck to give Nank a decent bit of coverage and some proper forward structure, I'd rather have Soldo galumphing around than Elton.

One thing Soldo gave us was first use of the ball in the centre. Made a big difference to our clearances. Nanks gets consistently soundly beaten in this area which results in quick entries into opposition forward line and on occasions very quick goals. Whether it's Soldo or someone else, I'm concerned with Nanks's leap. It's why we favoured Hampspud over Ivan regarding first use.

What were his hit outs to advantage ?

I don't really check stats. Just watch the game. Saw him on multiple occasions palm it to our advantage. More importantly, he didn't let the opposition ruckman palm it directly to his midfielders which is actually the main point. If our midfielders aren't good enough to collect the ball, that's another story but there was no silver service to the opposition which gives us more than a 50/50 contest. I'll take that

Thought he was disappointing.
Not unhappy with his selection though but i think he is done until next season.

Speaking of big doofsy rucks, old mate Gussy, some great news for him here!

Interesting observation. Stats for weekend were:

* Soldo - 21 hitouts 5 to advantage
* Nankervis - 14 hitouts 6 to advantage
* Martin - 28 hitouts 8 to advantage
* Walker - 5 hitouts 1 to advantage

Wish they also gave how many ruck contests they were in but on hitout win versus hit out to advantage percentage, Nankervis was the best on the ground.

I first read that as referring to Dusty and didn't flinch an eyelid that he was the dominant ruckman on the ground. The bloke can do anything :D

Sssssh! Careful, Lambchops and his mates might hear and then you're for it. Remember, hit-outs are irrelevant.

:hihi

Hit outs are largely irrelevant. Clearances are largely relevant.

In Hammer's last 10 games we lost clearances 8 times despite having the 2012 brownlow medalist and potential 2017 brownlow medalist in the guts with him.

BTW we were something like 20 -4 in centre clearances against the bears. An indication of how far an improvement Soldo is on Hammer despite still being miles and miles off AFL pace.

The CBs were 20-2 our way. (I can't remember numbers like that.) It looks to be mainly Martin dominating. Let's see how it works out this week if Junior gets another run.

And whats quite concerning is even though he isn't ready he is already IMO better around the ground on impact than hammer, which is his weakness against other 1st rucks, hence in development.... Again showing how poor our Ruck division was last year.....

In saying that before Neon blows a gasket I'm not arguing that hammer was the only one that could do it last year, as he was, it was just very very poor and pollution to the eyes.

Want to Soldo punch the ball when in contested marking situation in the back line. Too often against Brisvegas he was easily out marked when he found himself in the back line

The difference between Nanks and Soldo at the cewntre bounces is quite significant in that Nanks gets beaten and the opposition midfielders get the ball tapped somewhere in their preferred direction. They may not win it, but it's to their advantage. Soldo tapped the ball to our advantage. Big difference. Gave our midfielders at the very least a 50/50 chance. The games that we lost where teams came hard from behind were a result of winning the ball straight from the centre bounces and scoring quickly. That's our problem with Nanks. No leap and isn't tall. Grundy isnt tall either but has a leap. Someone remind me why we didn't draft him again?

Poor awareness and positioning, id expect experience and exposure to improve that for him.

Evident when Schache marked over him when Ivan Jnr already had marked Schaches position prior to the ball coming in.

Accurate post, and you spell out again why hit-outs always matter. They are crucial when the match is on the line, as they obviously provide the opportunity to get a CLR and first-use. As long as your mids are good enough to read the tap/palm and take advantage.

But, Grundy is tall, 203 cm to Nank's 199. Nank is an honest and game battler, but lacks that extra height and has very little spring. Grundy is a superior athlete in spring, pace and running ability, along with marking ability. He is close to elite already and just starting his career. I'd say with still much more upside than Nank because he is a much better athlete.

RFC has refused to invest a high draft pick in a ruckman. Too burnt by the Richard Lounder disaster?
