Thanks to exceptional recruiting and tall development, this is a blessing rather than a curse. Wear the Kid gloves with Evarn I say and bring a fresh, firing beast back in about round 15 for a tilt at September. No small part of Brisbane 3 flags in 3 years strategy.
It could as you say be a blessing in disguise in that it allows Ivan to be at his best when we need him to be at the pointy end of the season. I do wonder why they didn't make the call on this a while back and allow him to recover during the pre season rather than make it now just before the season is due to start.

I'm hoping IVan finds it very tough to push his way back in the side.

One player has allowed this to happen. Ben Griffiths. If Ben couldn't step up Ivan would have returned first. Now Ben has shown a fair bit we are comfortable with a duo.

Maybe the Eevan can put some pressure on the Hampavan to run well, get them both to put in some hot laps behind the Griffinator who could well be flying.

I just wanted to know others opinion on this.

With Maric now being unavailable are we happy with Griffiths being the other bigman to partner Hampson come round 1 then elevating Stephenson from a rookie . ?

Does Maric have to be place on the LTIL for this to occur?

Personally I would prefer Griffiths to Stephenson as he is more mobile and could play as a resting ruckman down forward and clunk a mark or two, whereas Stephenson wouldn't be as good. Lets see how Griffiths goes in the next practice match against the Dons.

Would you rest Hampson and bring in Stephenson for the last practice match against the Dons , or would you play your strongest side available to fine tune it for round 1?

just some questions and thoughts.

Thanks

Due to the status of our primary list we can upgrade 2 x rookie listed players prior to our first game.

Stephenson is eligible along with all the other rookies : Banfield, Williams, Darrou, Miles and Matt Thomas.

Looks like Miles will be one of the upgrades but the other might depend on form in our next practice match.

Thomas played well in the first half against the Pies and Hardwick likes his type but I would prefer Miles and Banfield (if Banfield plays our next game that is and does well that is).

I wouldn't want Stephenson upgraded unless Maric goes LTIL but he may get upgraded depending how Griffiths goes in our next game.

Happy for Griff to support the Hamster seeing as the Eevan has broken a wheel. The pairing has been pretty handy during our pre season and Griff more than anyone needs to get some continuous senior game time to furnish as a player.
Don't really care who gets to run around in our intra club practice match this weekend, it'll be mainly bruise free polishing of game n skills, but both The Hamster n Griffinator plus all the expected senior contenders should play against Esserdope. Final hit out before the season starts you don't get the choice of pretending to protect players from the year ahead, it needs to be pretty close to full throttle otherwise you end up stranded off the pace when the game gets serious.

Would be nice to be able to play all three of Hampson, Griffith and Vickery as rucks changing in the forward line but I guess expecting Vickery to be competent in the ruck is too big an ask.

Thought I heard the coaches plan was to play Vickery as a permanent key forward to allow Jaaack to roam up the ground. If that's the case then it would be logical to use either the Griffinator or the Orifice to replace the broken down EeVan in the ruck and continue to allow Tyrone to structure the forward line especially as Jaaack is not available to cover for Tyrone if he reverts to being a ruckman. Wheels within Wheels n maybe we'll keep progressing.

I like TV having a short run in the ruck, he gets more out of himself when he does - seems to up his focus.

We don't get long life out of our ruckman. Stafford was gone 3rd yr in. Simmonds 1 good year and the rest rubbish.
Maric blitzed in his 1st and been injured or carrying a injuring ever since.
Do we need to start playing 2 full time ruckman?? To cut down the work load...

It's not just our ruck men either -
Until the interchange tampering most teams had two rucks
We actually have three: maric Hampton Vickery it we are getting then to share the load and also play as forwards during their breather
