Ivan Maric

Thought he did ok. Fights hard for a big man. Look at it this way, we could still have Graham/Brown/Pattison running around instead.

Last year Ivan was dropping into the hole and taking a lot of defensive contested marks.
We could have done with some of that today..

Thought old Hudson matched him pretty well.

Average game (although he did play a lot better in the second half).

In fact, I'd go so far as to say he's lowered his colours on 3 of the 4 games he's played this year.

A long way from the Maric of last year, hope he re-captures some form.....and in a hurry!!!

I didn't notice it today, but in the previous two games against the Saints and Dogs, I honestly reckon he got the worst of the centre bounces by a considerable margin.

I know people might laugh at that and call it making excuses, but someone else on here mentioned the Saints game, and I watched both that game and the Bulldogs game closely.

Not even beginning to suggest it was deliberate or anything like that, but there were quite a few occasions in which Maric couldn't get near the bounce because it did not go straight up, but off to the side favouring the other ruckman.

The season Maric had last year was one out of the bottle. He'll be right, he has shown he can do it.

Did a few good things, and a lot of not good things. Doesn't look half the footballer than he did last year.

Jeez we are pretty tough on the ruckman, for a bloke who is so influential to our success lets just hope we haven't run him into the ground. Something is not right with Ivan as he looks like he is labouring out there.

Leysy's said plenty of times before, but still fear we may have burnt him by running him into the ground at the back end of last year when his groin was playing up.

They can be horror injuries to overcome, especially for a power runner like Ivvy.

You are spot on there. Before he came to the tigers he was a personal trainer focusing on endurance running. Last year his running was a standout, only matched by guys like NicNat and Kreuzer who are freaks.

His hitouts are well down from low 30's to low 20's. That is a massive drop and it's not because Vickery is spending more time as the ruck or is more competitive in the ruck but rather I think it's because I've noticed he's struggling to jump and get off the ground. For whatever reason that is who knows, could be his groin or another injury. Opposition ruckman are getting their hand to the ball first more often. Also haven't seen too many of those big contested marks this season where he gets off the ground and clunks it.

hope he's just starting slowly and works his way into some form, but he definately is struggling quite a bit compared to last year.

looks like he's lost a yard or 10 in pace, hudson made hime look slow last weekend on a couple of leads.

Could only really draw that conclusion by looking at stats for time spent in the ruck. Don't forget Vickery missed a chunk of last season and has been rucking a lot this year either in the F50 or on the ball.
Do agree though that he's not getting off the ground all that well. Some of the new non contact rules may also be having some impact.
He's battling something.

Will say that Maric looks a little sluggish with his movement around the ground...if its groin related how does he over come it by playing....also looks to have lost that leap especially in marking contests....

I reckon it happened at least a couple of times a game last year where Ivan took the calming contested mark last season in defence after dropping back to fill the hole.
How much of that are we seeing now?? :don't know

Exactly, gotta manage the big mullets playing time if we are to go deep this year.

Maric is not 100 % fit no way, hes definately carrying an injury or niggle of some sort, most likely a groin lost his spring and jump, lost his speed and is plodding not runnning freely or impacting contests compared to last season.

one good year is not enough these days

so far he is well below the mark

is it just me or is anyone else worried that ivan is going to turn back into a dud

Well he did have trouble being a regular with the Crows, that's why he's with us now. Time will tell if last year was the one and only.
