Yeah same here. Seems to be a fairly smart ruckman, not just one who gives an effort. Some of his tap work was showing some know-how. Ruckman take a while to develop. Just look at Jamar. A horrible player until he reached like 27. Maric I think is only 24-25, so I think there is still some more development left in him and the great thing is is that we haven't wasted money of the last few years by paying inflated amounts to our recruited players. Saving up to when free-agency comes which is good. A team that has been limping in the bottom half of the ladder should never be paying the maximum amount of the salary cap. Good management by the Tiges!

Not according to some.Pick 37 was way to much to give up in a compromised draft. ;D

I have no problem saying if we didn’t do the last minute Gold Coast deal I would have thought the price was too much.

What about now ? Changed you're mind or too early to tell?

That last minute GCS deal did make trade week seem like an overall success.

Even without the last minute deal the price was right. Our midfield guns could not continue to develop with Gumbus as their ruckman. The last minute deal just made it sweeter for us.

The other ruckman mentioned was Hamish McIntosh. What was he worth? Some of my North mates were saying a 1st round pick!! You're kidding me! 3rd round would've been too much for Hamish. I'll take Mullett Boy every day of the week.

The week gets a pass because of the GCS deal. I think the Suns rang us and it was there initiative that got the deal done.

But the better you get and the harder you work the luckier you get.

I think we have identified the dead wood and did try and shift it last year. There looks like some easy delistings at years end.

But I love what Maric brings to the table. What he is good at, we were poor at.

I was in that camp also, my point at the time was to pick him up in the PSD if talks broke down (ala Houli), there were some very good players still around at pick 37.

The fact we lost our touted PSD pick to Port should highlight how risky that avenue is when you don't have a very. Early pick.

I'd say it's the exception and not the rule, the fact a guy like Luke Ball can roll the dice with the national draft indicates there's a fair amount of goodwill when it comes to player transfers. Port has actually bucked the trend here and I reckon bringing in players who don't want to be there couldn't be good for team morale.

i dont think it was goodwill that allowed a 26(?)yo injury prone slow inside mid with questionable skills to last to the end of the 2nd round. he has turned out a good pick so far for the pies but i dont think any other team missed out by not getting him.

Maybe, but I don't think it's that uncommon for PSD players to be snagged by other teams as long as terms are met.

Either way, I'm not sure we could have afforded to gamble with Maric in the PSD.

Had we pursued Maric via the PSD it wouldve been interesting to see which way Port went they may have snagged him due to their poor ruck stocks.

I think you're underselling Ball as a player, injury prone yes, but his skills are on par with many other players of his ilk. His skills are no worse than Mitchell, Priddis, Swan, Watson, Swallow and host other inside mids with limited kicking penetration. I'm sure a number of clubs made enquiries but it was pretty clear he wasn't the slightest bit interested in playing for any other team.

We won the hit-outs today and Maric got more touches than Kruze.

Maric was HUGE today, HUGE relative to what we've had

Five clearances: second only to Cotch.

And nine contested possessions: fifth highest in the side.

I thought Maric did rather well, its good to see a ruck with some body about him, he was also prepared to
get down and dirty. Hopefully things in the midfield will continue to improve as the big fella works in
better with Cotch, Martin and Lid's, those 3 really have to get better at reading the play before the ball is
tapped down.
