Ivan Maric

Couldn’t be happier with Maric.

He is no world beater but he is honest. Throws his weight around in the ruck contests, taps to a wide variety of areas, can still win the ball when it hits the ground and will take the odd pack mark around the ground. But everyone knows when he is around. Gives us a physical presence that we have lacked for 5 years.

His kicking is very compact. Short stabs over 30 meters are very effective. Decision making with the ball is very good. Very smart by hand.

The goal is to find his replacement for 2017. I think we take another one or two rucks at years end. A couple will be gone.

Gotta love a big bloke with a mullet who smashes into people all game.

Couldn't quite see this bloke doing it: http://www.statzone.com.au/images/afl/players/ivan-maric.jpg

Yes. when he first came to us I saw that picture and thought "Christ! Here we go again."

Could it be that he has learnt to understand violence from his hairdresser?

Really another big tick for the Blair Project.

Agree, I really didn't know much about him, I hate watching Adelaide games. Maric is much MUCH better than what I thought he was. How about a few of you posters who bagged him out and said he was only a minor upgrade on Gus put your hands up and apologise.

Working well in practice matches so far is our Ivan the maybe not so terrible.
Playing well around the ground and just loved his shepherd for Dusty.
Dawks don't really have an elite ruck setup.
Kangas rucks are o.k. also not elite.
Freo had no Sandilands.
Cats minimal ruck stocks.
Ivans been getting a fairly easy ride through the ruck so far, will wait till he's taken on the likes of Sandi, Cox - NicNat, Mummy, Warnock - Kruez, before I hand him the keys to the city, but definately no reasons to complain about his work so far.

Uh... ???
Goldstein and HMac are the definition of elite.

Cats didn't have "minimal" ruck stocks. They played a premiership player in West and the best VFL ruckman of the past 3 or 4 years.

I heard a rumour that Richmond are trialling something highly controversial and innovative. It could transform the way everyone is playing the game and make it completely unrecognisable to all footy fans - especially Tigers.

It's called a Ruckman.

Stay tuned for Paul Roos to poo-poo the idea OTC and back up it with mentions of his Mummy, the pressures of defending a Premiership, baskets of Goodsies and gushing praise for his beloved Rossy (because that's relevant to everything).

Glad you rate the Kangas rucks as elite, I don't.

West's played twenty games, just because he's fortunate enough to have played second fiddle behind Otto in a premiership side doesn't make him a top notch AFL ruckman, High Def's got more ruck experience than West. Mature age best ruckman in the second grade comp doesn't make him elite at AFL level, christ he's still got to have a chance to find the tempo and pressure at this level.

I have been really impressed by Maric so far this pre-season. It was great to see him play the full game yesterday. He is a presence on the ground and is good at ground level. He will give a contest and give our mids a good chance to win the first ball. His sheppard for Dusty yesterday was awesome! Very happy with the aquisition of big Ivan Maric!

x 2

As long as he can provide a contest at stoppages etc, take the mark when he is supposed to and do the "1 percenters" like he did yesterday - it will allow Cotch, Dusty, Axel, Conca, Lids etc to have first use and boy can they use it and when you have guys like Jumpin Jack and TV up forward you know the goals will come.

We finally have a ruckman. He definitely throws his weight around and is competitive. Does all the team things too. Excellent pick up.

Most surprising player of the pre season for me...... Hope they give Him next week off, massive workload ahead

Yeah same here. Seems to be a fairly smart ruckman, not just one who gives an effort. Some of his tap work was showing some know-how. Ruckman take a while to develop. Just look at Jamar. A horrible player until he reached like 27. Maric I think is only 24-25, so I think there is still some more development left in him and the great thing is is that we haven't wasted money of the last few years by paying inflated amounts to our recruited players. Saving up to when free-agency comes which is good. A team that has been limping in the bottom half of the ladder should never be paying the maximum amount of the salary cap. Good management by the Tiges!

His willingness to run and lay that shepard for Dusty to nail that super goal was 1st class.

Yeah I loved seeing that too. It's that type of physicality from our big men that's been missing hence why it stands out like the proverbial.
Eevan understands why he's been recruited and is so far delivering.

Hartley is certainly proving his worth and then some. Filling some much needed mature gaps, most importantly at low cost.

Not according to some.Pick 37 was way to much to give up in a compromised draft. ;D
