Ivan Maric

Hmmm, maybe. Not that simple. For starters Benny was more mobile than Ivan. Started at CHF. Ivan always a Ruckman. If Kreuzer holds his own in the ruck, and then plays a good RR role, win to them, even if Ivan takes a couple of goal-saving grabs, which is all he's gunna do.

It was Paul Abbott by the way, just wikid it. Kicked 6 goals in the 88 GF!

Basically it comes down to this, if you have enough of these, win as you say. Thats why Hawthorn won in 08, the quality and creativity of Franklin and Rioli covered a multitude of sins, like no ruck.

Its an old debate, going back to when Jeans said rucks weren't essential and won a flag with an undersized, second string ruck, (was it Abbott?).
You sure it was Yabby said rucks weren't essential snake?
Was watching a footy doco just recently and old Yabby was heavily featured, may even have been in tribute to him. Yabby was adamant about the value of a quality ruckman. Claimed every grand final he lost as a coach the first place he was beaten was in the ruck.
I know the tank engine was dismissive of ruckmen, but that was only because he never had a decent one.

Thats only my memory of it TM and its far from perfect. I remember a big debate over Abbott playing ruck at the time. Maybe Jeans was foxing just because he didn't have a good or fit traditional ruckman at the time?

Kruezer will end up being one of the elites of his generation. There is no shame in iVan being beaten around the ground by Kruezer.

Kreuzer is effectively another Stynes, giving the tankers a helluva lot more flexibility

EEvan will be a good get for the RFC; I'd still like us to go at Stefan Martin and/or Tom Nicholls in the offseason, plus rookieing at least 1 more ruckman (then again I'd like us to top up with a mature aged big bodied KPD, I can't have it all)

I hope Angus is competent at cheese making

Kreuzer did more than just slip fwd and get a goal or two, he was one of their better midfielders, or an extra RR. Tremendous player. To me it again throws up an interesting question, age old question. Obviously everyone wants a gun ruck in the Kreuzer/ Cox mold, but not everyone has got one or can have one. So do you then go for someone good around the ground but not a monster who is not great in the ruck? Or vice versa? Its an old debate, going back to when Jeans said rucks weren't essential and won a flag with an undersized, second string ruck, (was it Abbott?). Coincidently years later Hawthorn did it again recently with Renouf, who isn't that good at anything, just OK on a good day. Brisbane the polar opposite, veiwing big buffetting rucks, usually 2, as essential to finals success.

Not something we have to worry much about this year, which as I said, getting Ivan looks like a good move.

I agree Kreuzer is elite and definately a once in a generation player, that said he didnt win the contest as a ruckman. If we got Kreuzer (because carlton didnt pick him etc) then we wouldnt have gotten Cotchin.

As long as you have elite midfielders and a ruckman that can win hitouts, you are halfway there to winning a premiership. The Geelong model of umpteen different elite midfielders who play anywhere on the ground is a good one. Much prefer it to a Cox, Sandilands situation.

25 hitouts (same as Kruezer and Hampton combined) 5 clearances, 9 contested possessions, 18 disposals @ 72% efficiency...pretty good debut from Ivan.

All the scribes raved about how good Kreuzer played but Ivan's numbers were bloody good eh.

What a bargain he was.

In that case, Maric takes the ruck duel and then drops back into defence (the Benny Gale role) to help out Post etc with the big guys. We then play an extra midfielder across the ground. Kruezer might get plenty of it but I'm not convinced on his disposal. If we play an extra mid with slick skills, we win.

You forgot to add Carltons spare man is then someone like a Gibbs, Scotland, Simpson etc running off half back.

We kept pushing our extra too the contest. We would then have a 6-7 or 7-8 advantage.

Carlton’s would drop off out the back and have a 3-4, 4-5 advantage behind the ball with the spare in attacking position coming from behind the ball or guarding the most dangerous spot if we won the contest.

Another good test for Big Ivan this week who will be up against Jolly.

Loving his work so far. Keep going Ivan.

Not wrong it looked as bad as Edwards kicking.

Again, no world beating effort tonight but everything you want from your ruck.

Doesn’t get manhandled or thrown around, takes marks around the ground and great on the deck.

Angus Graham your services are not required. Ever.

Well until Ivan proves he is human and gets injured. His style bring back memories of Jamie Charman, it's great to watch but a tough way to pay the game.

Right now Ivan is playing like a cyborg who doesn't feel pain

Bloody good game again against another elite ruckman. Whats not to like about this guy?

Don't know about the "elite" bit but Ivan is proving to be a very handy draft pick up. I loved
his chase and tackle bit, Vickery could learn a few things off him and believe me that would
not go astray presently.
